Lost 06×18 Details

WHOOOSH to the island. Desmond is in a cavern at the bottom of the waterfall. This is the heart of the island. It`s loaded with stalactites and stalagmites, but most notably it is dominated by a shallow pool. The waterfall flows into the pool, and a small stream flows out of it. Desmond crosses to the pool, and he sees skeletons of people who have been there before him. There is a strong white light emanating from under the pool. The light is brightest at the center where a large oblong carved stone stands.

Desmond wades into the pool, and it activates. It begins to glow brighter and whiter. And a hum starts — an electromagnetic hum. Rising electromagnetic forces buffet him like a gale. His nose starts to bleed. Desmond stumbles forward and reaches the carved stone. He hefts it up, and the water starts to quickly drain out of the pool. The waterfall stops, and the light goes out.

Desmond is confused. This isn`t what was supposed to happen. Without water, smoke and steam begin to vent out of holes in the cavern. A red glow of molten activity begins to fill the cavern. Suddenly, the ground jolts with a small earthquake. The bombardment of electromagnetic energy has taken its toll and Desmond collapses to the ground and passes out. Just then… RRRRRUMBLE!

At the edge of the bamboo forest, Hurley, Kate, Sawyer and Ben react as the ground shakes. A tree collapses and falls down right towards Hurley! Ben shoves Hurley out of the way and is pinned underneath a falling tree.

“Looks like you were wrong, too.”

Jack and Locke peer into the cavern as the light goes out completely. Locke smiles, very satisfied. He turns to Jack and says it looks like he was wrong. Jack`s frustration and anger builds. He follows Locke out to the streambed and punches Locke in the face! And when he does, something very surprising happens — Locke winces in pain and there`s blood on his face. Jack realizes he can now hurt Locke! But before Jack can do anything — Locke quickly picks up a rock and bashes Jack in the head. Jack staggers a few steps and drops. Locke takes off running, and Jack loses consciousness.

WHOOOSH to the concert, Kate and Claire are surprised to discover they are seated at the same table. Desmond is there and smiles. Dr. Pierre Chang takes the stage and introduces Daniel Widmore accompanied by Drive Shaft. As Charlie takes the stage and begins the number, he sees Claire in the audience. It`s the woman of his dreams! A contraction hits Claire, and she makes her way to the bathroom. Kate follows her, and Charlie runs off the stage after her. Backstage, he finds Kate helping Claire, who has gone into labor. Kate sends him off to find water and blankets. Claire is scared, but Kate tells her they`re going to get through it together.

The baby is almost there. Kate can see the head — and suddenly it begins. FLASH! Images of Kate and Claire exactly in the same positions but on the island: Kate helping Claire give birth to baby Aaron. FLASH! Backstage, Claire gives birth to a perfect baby boy, and both she and Kate know what they saw. They understand. Charlie returns, and they definitely recognize him now from the island. Claire takes Charlie`s hand — and FLASH! Charlie jolts as if shocked. He sees their life together on the island. Kate looks up and sees Desmond watching. He smiles and asks if she understands. Kate nods and asks now what?

WHOOOSH to the island and Kate, Sawyer and Hurley attempt to get the tree off Ben, but a temblor knocks them off their feet. It`s getting worse. Miles radios in and tells them they have about an hour to get over there. Ben says he knows how they can get there — Locke has a boat.

Jack regains consciousness and takes off after Locke through the jungle. Below the cliffs where Locke took Sawyer down the ladders to the cave is a cove where Locke has the Elizabeth moored. But before Locke can scramble down to it, Jack catches up to him — and he`s angry. Locke sees Jack, and even though he`s mortal now, there`s no fear or hesitation in him. He unsheathes his knife from his scabbard — and the storm breaks. Rain sheets down. It`s time for their reckoning — and they run at each other!

“I want you to know, Jack. You died for nothing.”

It`s a brutal fright. They battle it out as it rains, and Locke loses the knife at one point. He scrambles for it, but Jack gets on top of him and starts choking the life out of Locke. Locke grasps the knife and SKLSSSH! Plunges it deep into Jack`s side. Jack is bleeding bad. Locke easily flips Jack and swings the knife down towards Jack`s throat. Jack catches his arm and stops him, but not before he`s cut in the same exact spot as the cut that seems to keep coming back in the sideways. Locke says he wants Jack to know he died for nothing –

“I saved you a bullet.”

But KAA-BLAM! A loud shot rings out, and Locke is jerked upright then falls over. There`s a hole in his shirt where blood trickles out. Kate stands in the distance holding a rifle with fierce determination. She tells Locke she saved him a bullet. Jack climbs to his feet, but Locke says they`re too late. Jack looks at Locke with pure hatred and kicks him over the edge of the cliff. Locke`s body soars through the air and lands on the rocks below, bent and twisted at the bottom of the cliff. The Man in Black, the smoke monster — the worst thing to happen to our people — is dead.

WHOOOSH to the hospital post surgery. The nurse sees that Locke is waking up and tells a surprised Jack. He tells Locke not to move, but Locke says the surgery worked. He can feel his legs. He wiggles his toes — and FLASH! Locke sees the same moment on the island after the crash. He starts to cry and asks if Jack saw it, but Jack didn`t. Locke tells Jack they need to go and asks Jack to come with him. Jack says Locke`s not going anywhere. He just had extensive spinal surgery. Plus, Jack has to meet his son — but Locke tells Jack he doesn`t have a son. Jack is upset by this, but he doesn`t understand why it upsets him. He starts to leave, and Locke says he hopes someone can do for Jack what Jack did for him.

WHOOOSH to the island as the rain stops. Sawyer, Hurley and Ben join Kate and Jack on the cliffs. Another huge tremor shakes the ground. Locke is dead. It`s over. But Sawyer points out it doesn`t feel like it`s over. Kate doesn`t understand why it hasn`t stopped. Jack realizes that whatever Desmond turned off needs to be turned back on. But he warns them if it doesn`t work, they need to leave on the plane. Kate says no, Jack should come with them and let the island sink. But Jack says no, he can`t.

“If the island`s going down, I`m going down with it.”

Sawyer can get the boat across to Hydra in time… and they say their good-byes. Sawyer and Jack shake hands, and Sawyer thanks Jack for everything. Neither man would have survived without the other, and they know it. Hurley tells Jack he`s going with him. Jack protests, but Hurley says it`s his decision and he`s going. Ben gives his walkie to Sawyer and says if the island`s going down, he`s going with it.

Jack tells Kate to go and get Claire on that plane. Kate asks Jack to promise her she`ll see him again, and Jack just looks at her. He can`t promise her that, and she knows he won`t lie to her. She kisses him. A deep, long, romantic and tragic kiss because they both know it`s good-bye. Kate tells him she loves him, and Jack says he loves her. Then our heroes go their separate ways — Kate and Sawyer along the cliff`s edge, and Jack, Hurley and Ben back into the jungle.

“I don`t believe in a lot of things, but I do believe in duct tape.”

On Hydra island, Lapidus examines the newly welded metal plate he`s just installed on the co-pilot`s side of the plane. It seems pretty solid. He resets the electronics and sees an error light of the hydraulics. He tasks Miles to check it out. Sawyer radios to Lapidus not to leave without them. Lapidus radios back that they`re getting off the ground while there`s still ground to get off of — so they better hurry.

WHOOOSH to the hospital as James makes his way to the vending machine. The candy bar he wants gets stuck, so he sticks his arm up into the machine to coax it out. Juliet comes around the corner and catches him. He shows her his badge. She`s amused and says maybe he should read the machine its rights. She gives him a hint — unplug it and plug it back in. The candy will drop out. Sawyer unplugs the machine, causing the lights to short out. Oops. Juliet reaches in and grabs the candy bar for him, handing it to him. And when their fingers touch — FLASH! They see images of their life on the island. Both now remember everything. Overwhelmed that they have found each other again, they fold into each other`s arms and kiss.

“It needs to be you, Hugo.”

WHOOOSH to the island as Jack, Hurley and Ben hurry back to the cavern. Jack tells Hurley he`s going down alone, but Hurley won`t let Jack die. Jack says he`s already dead. Hurley says Jack is supposed to protect the island, and Jack tells him that`s what he`s doing. But Hurley says the island needs him. Jack says no, the island needs Hurley. The protector needs to be Hurley. It was only supposed to be Jack so he could do this.

Hurley says he`ll do it but only temporarily. As soon as Jack gets the light turned back on, Hurley`s pulling Jack up and giving it back to him. Jack knows that this is Hurley`s only way of dealing with it and that he`s really saying good-bye, so Jack says it`s a deal. They look around for something to drink out of, and Ben hands them a plastic Oceanic water bottle. Jack smiles and says it`s perfect. Jack fills it with water from a dry puddle in the stream and Hurley drinks from it. Now Hurley is like Jack.

On Hydra island, Kate and Sawyer find Claire sitting on the beach staring off into nothing. Kate tells her to come with them, but Claire says she`s not going anywhere. The island made her crazy, and she doesn`t want Aaron to see her this way. She doesn`t know how to be his mother. Kate tells her no one does at first. Kate will help her — Claire`s not alone. They`ll do it together. Claire agrees, and they run towards the plane.

Lapidus starts the plane`s engines — it works! He rolls the plane back and turns it around. Lapidus is ready to take off when Sawyer runs out in front of it flagging him down. Lapidus sees him and hollers back to Miles and Alpert that they have some late arrivals.

“I`ll see you in another life, brother.”

At the alcove, Hurley and Ben gently lower Jack down to the bottom of the cavern. The pool now casts a red glow with heat radiating from the hole the rock once plugged. Jack crosses over to Desmond, who`s lying on his stomach not moving. Desmond says he put the light out, but it didn`t work. He says he has to put it back. It was like a drain. Jack says he`ll do it. Desmond says it`ll kill Jack, but Jack insists. Desmond has suffered enough. Jack tells him to go home to his wife and son.

WHOOOSH to the concert. It`s late by the time Jack arrives. Kate is there and tells Jack it`s over. He asks where he knows her from, and says she stole his pen from him on Oceanic 815. It`s another reference to that flight, and Jack is confused. That`s how he knows her? No, Kate says. That`s not it. She touches his face — and FLASH! He sees images of them kissing on top of the cliffs. Shocked, Jack steps back from her. And while others have accepted these moments of remembering, Jack is scared. Confused. Unsettled. He doesn`t understand what`s happening. Kate says he will if he comes with her.

WHOOOSH to the cavern as Jack picks up the stone and drags it over to the hole. Jack cries out in pain but does not let go. He finally reaches the hole and slides the rock into place — and nothing happens. The island trembles — it`s going down!

“Way to wait until the last second, Jim.”

On Hydra island, Kate, Sawyer and Claire are helped inside. Miles says way to wait until the last second. Sawyer is glad to see him, too. They strap in as Lapidus revs the engines to their full power, and they take off, climbing into the sky and leaving the island.

In the cavern, Jack feels a drop of water hit his forehead. He looks up. A trickle of water feeds into the cavern. And then more water and more. The pool begins to fill — and the reddish glow becomes increasingly whiter. Jack smiles because the light is back on! As the light in the cavern gets brighter and brighter, the electromagnetic forces begin to buffet Jack. He is consumed by the water and light — washed out by its sheer brilliance.

“I think you do what you do best. Take care of people.”

Hurley and Ben pull the rope up, hand over hand, and realize they have Desmond! Jack is gone. Then it hits Hurley — it`s his job now. What is he supposed to do? Ben says he`ll do what he does best. Take care of people. He can start by helping Desmond get home. But Hurley says people can`t leave the island. Ben tells him that`s how Jacob ran things. Maybe there`s another way. A better way. Hurley asks for Ben`s help. He could use someone with experience. Will Ben do it? Ben is touched and says he`d be honored.

WHOOOSH to a Los Angeles church. Ben is sitting outside on a bench as a cab pulls up. The cabbie pulls out a wheelchair from the trunk, and Locke swings out and into the chair. He wheels over to Ben and asks if everyone is already inside. Ben says yes but there`s going to be a couple of late arrivals. Then Ben apologizes to Locke for everything he did to him. He was selfish and jealous and wanted everything Locke had. Ben is going to stay there a while. He has some things he still needs to work out. Locke says he forgives Ben if it helps, and Ben says yes, it does. Then he says Locke doesn`t need that chair anymore, and Locke stands up and walks into the church.

Hurley comes out and tells Ben they`re all inside. Ben says he doesn`t think he`s going in. Hurley tells Ben that he was a really good number two. Ben says that Hurley was a great number one. Hurley goes back inside as…

“I`ll be waiting for you there… once you`re ready.”

…Jack pulls up in his truck with Kate. She asks if he knows where they are. It`s where he was going to have his father`s funeral, Jack says. Why did she bring him there? Kate says because it`s where he was going to have his father`s funeral. She tells Jack he can go through the back. She`ll be waiting inside.

Jack goes inside and sees his father`s coffin. He`s affected by the sight of it. He crosses to it to open it — and the moment his fingers touch it — FLASH! Images from the island wash over Jack. He stumbles back from the coffin and he remembers. Everything. He opens the coffin, and of course it`s empty. Then behind him his father says hello. Jack turns toward the voice. He`s not surprised or startled. He`s confused. Christian died. Christian nods and says yes, he did. It takes Jack a moment to put it together, but then he realizes he died, too. Jack asks if Christian is real, and his father says he hopes so. He`s real, Jack is real. Everything that ever happened to Jack is real. And everyone in that church is real, too. Jack processes the implications of that. They`re all dead? Christian says everyone dies. Some of them before Jack. Some of them a long time after him. Jack asks why they`re there now, but Christian says there isn`t any “now” here. This is the place they made together so they could find one another. The most important time of his life was the time he spent with those people. No one does it alone. Jack needed all of them, and they needed him. For what, Jack asks. To remember, and to let go. To move on. Jack asks where they`re going, and Christian says let`s go find out.

“We`ve been waiting for you.”

Jack enters the church and sees the most important people in his life. Rose. Bernard. Sayid. Shannon. Boone. Sun. Jin. Claire with baby Aaron. Charlie. Desmond. Penny. Libby. Hurley. Juliet. Sawyer. John Locke. Kate. They`re all happy and filled with peace, love and excitement. Locke says they`ve been waiting for him, and they all take their seats in the pew closest to the aisle, one behind the other — like in an airplane. Christian comes in and walks down the aisle to the front doors. He opens them, and they church is bathed in light. White light pours in, getting brighter and brighter, and we push in closer and closer on Jack until he`s overwhelmed by the light…

WHOOOSH to the island as Jack`s body is washed out of the cavern by the stream. He`s still alive but bleeding badly. He staggers to the bamboo forest and lies down. He hears something and turns to see Vincent run over to him, just as he did the very first day Oceanic 815 crashed on the island. Jack stares up through the swaying bamboo and hears something else. Distant. Up in the sky. And then he sees the Ajira plane climb higher and higher. Jack watches as it flies away.

He smiles. The plane is gone, finally free of the island. Jack Shephard has done what he came to this place to do. He has found his purpose. He has found love. And been loved. And he has finally found a way to love himself. The bamboo sways across the blue sky. And Jack Shephard`s eye closes one final time. He is gone.

The end.

Jack, the new protector of the island, meets with Locke and they go past the bamboo field with Desmond to visit the heart of the island.

Lost 06×17 Details

Okay, ladies and gentlemen. This is the final episode of LOST. Let`s bring it home with an old school season one montage. No, not a montage — it`s an overture. We see the people we`ve come to care about over the last six seasons on the island and in the sideways — moments that reveal who they are… who they were… who they could`ve been. Back and forth. Character to character.

Jack is in his office at St. Sebastian looking at Locke`s x-ray. Then cut to Jack on the island kneeling by a stream, splashing water on his face. Newly anointed by Jacob.

Ben Linus at home in the sideways making a cup of tea. Then cut to Ben on the island, freaked out as he loads his rifle. He looks over his shoulder and sees –

Locke standing at the edge of the empty well focused on the rope someone used to help Desmond out. Cut to Locke in a hospital room lying on a gurney being prepped for surgery. As he`s wheeled out of the room, his eyes fix on his wheelchair in the corner.

LAPD Detective James Ford washing his hands and looking at his reflection in the broken mirror. Cut to Sawyer on the island checking the dressing on Kate`s gunshot wound.

“No one can tell you why you`re here, Kate. Certainly not me.”

WHOOOSH to Kate in Hurley`s Camaro in a black cocktail dress. Waiting. Desmond signs for the coffin and directs the Oceanic driver to unload it through the back church door. He gets in the Camaro, but Kate has had enough. He busts her out of jail, makes her put on the dress for some concert, and he won`t tell her why they`re there. Desmond interrupts her and says no one can tell her why she`s there. And he`s not talking about the church — he`s talking about here. Kate asks what he wants. Desmond says he`s her friend and all he wants is to leave. Where? Desmond says he`ll show her, and he drives off.

WHOOOSH to the island. Sawyer asks Jack if he`s the new Jacob. Jack nods and says he doesn`t feel any different. Jack explains to Kate, Hurley and Sawyer that beyond the bamboo forest near their old camp is the heart of the island. It`s a light, and he has to protect it. Hurley asks if Locke, or the smoke monster, wants to put the light out. Jack nods. And if he succeeds, then that`s it for all of them. Kate asks why he hasn`t done it yet, and Sawyer says because he doesn`t have Desmond. He tells Jack to go on to the bamboo forest and he`ll go get Desmond out of the well.

WHOOOSH to a seedy motel as Hurley pulls in and parks. He takes out a tranquilizer gun from the glove compartment and shows it to Sayid. None of this is ringing a bell? Sayid tells Hurley he`s insane. Hurley asks Sayid to wait there. If he sticks with Hurley, he`ll be happy he did.

Hurley gets out and walks up to a door. He knocks, and a drunk Charlie answers and tells Hurley to leave. He doesn`t care about the concert. Hurley asks what if he said playing at this concert tonight is the most important thing Charlie will ever do, would he come then? Charlie thinks a beat and then tells Hurley to sod off. Hurley apologizes and then shoots him with the tranq gun. At the Hummer, Sayid turns around as Hurley dumps Charlie`s body in the back. He asks what that was, and Hurley simply says Charlie.

“When you said you were going to destroy the island, I thought you were speaking figuratively.”

WHOOOSH to the well on the island as Sawyer arrives. Locke and Ben are there. Locke asks what Sawyer is doing there, and Sawyer says to rescue Desmond. He sees the rope and looks into the well. It`s empty. Looks like somebody beat them to it. Locke asks if Sawyer knows why he`s there, and Sawyer says he needs Desmond to destroy the island. Locke says he`s absolutely right. But he`s not going down with the ship like Jacob`s candidates are. Sawyer says they`re not candidates anymore. Locke reacts, understanding — right as Sawyer elbows Ben in the face, takes his rifle and backs away into the jungle. Ben turns to Locke and says when he said he was going to destroy the island he thought Locke was being figurative. Locke tells Ben he`s welcome to come with him on the boat. Because once he`s made Desmond do what he needs him to do, Locke is going to sail away from this place and watch it sink.

Cut to Desmond as he wakes up. Desmond is at Rose and Bernard`s camp. Rose explains they built it in 1975, lived there a couple of years, then the sky lit up again. God knows when they are now. She says she doesn`t mean to be rude, but once Desmond has eaten, she wants him to be on his way. They broke their rule for him — their rule that they don`t get involved. Whatever got Desmond thrown in the well is the drama that she and Bernard want nothing to do with.

But then Locke steps into their camp and tells Desmond to come with him right then or he`ll kill Rose and Bernard. Rose tells Desmond he doesn`t have to go anywhere with Locke. But Locke says he`ll make it hurt. Desmond makes Locke promise he won`t touch them ever. Locke promises, and Desmond says he`ll do whatever he wants.

At the barracks, Miles tries to radio Ben but can`t reach him. Miles has found Richard Alpert unconscious in the jungle and he`s okay. Alpert wakes up and asks if Miles still has the C-4. Miles says yeah and asks why. Alpert says they need to go to Hydra island to finish what they started. They need to blow up that plane.

WHOOOSH to the museum backstage area as Miles parks his car and starts towards the VIP entrance when he suddenly sees Sayid in the passenger seat of Hurley`s Hummer. He stops to get a better look, but Hurley drives off. Miles pulls out his cell phone and makes a few calls. Cut to Detective James Ford at his desk. Miles tells him he thinks he just saw Jarrah. There was only one witness left alive at the crime scene. A Korean woman with a gunshot wound. James says she`s still at the hospital and will go keep her safe.

At the hospital, Juliet comes into Sun and Jin`s room. She`s there to check on the baby. They look at her blankly, and she realizes they don`t speak English. Juliet indicates the ultrasound machine and the jelly she needs to rub on Sun`s stomach. Sun pulls up her gown… and as Juliet applies the jelly, something starts happening to Sun. Juliet places the ultrasound wand on Sun`s belly — and FLASH! Sun sees herself and Juliet in the medical station on the island as Juliet performs the ultrasound.

FLASH! Sun blinks. She turns to Jin and says she remembers. Juliet smiles and says there`s their baby. Sun and Jin turn to the monitor — and FLASH! Quick moments of Sun and Jin on the island, then — FLASH! Jin reacts, and a dawning realization crosses Sun`s face. She asks if Jin saw, and he can only nod. They are overcome with emotion.

WHOOOSH to the island as Locke, Desmond and Ben trek to the bamboo forest. As they enter a clearing, they see Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley on the other side. Suddenly — BANG! BANG! BANG! Kate strides towards Locke firing slugs into his chest. You killed them, she screams. Locke is completely unharmed. He suggests she save her bullets and turns his attention to Jack. So it`s him. Jack says yeah, it`s him. Locke expected to be surprised. Jack is the obvious choice, isn`t he? Jack says he volunteered. Locke assumes Jack is there to stop him, but Jack says he can`t stop him. He wants to go with him. He knows Locke is heading for the far side of the bamboo forest because he thinks he can destroy the island, but Jack isn`t going to let that happen. Jack is going to kill Locke. Locke asks how he plans to do that, but Jack says it`s a surprise. Locke is undaunted and says okay, let`s get on with it. They`ll see which one is right.

“If I can fix you, Mr. Locke, that`s all the peace I`ll need.”

WHOOOSH to St. Sebastian hospital. Jack checks in with Locke before they start the anesthesia to see if he`s okay. Locke asks if this will work, and Jack says he`s confident it will. There`s a chance that Jack could kill him, but he`s trying to make him feel better. And it`s a rare joke from Jack as he cracks a smile. Locke smiles and says let`s do it. Then he asks Jack if they ever found his father`s coffin. Jack says he got a call from Oceanic that morning. It might even already be in LA. Locke hopes it gives him some peace. Jack says if he can fix Locke, that`s all the peace he needs.

Out in the hallway, Jack runs into Juliet and David. Jack has their tickets for the concert that evening — and we realize Juliet is David`s mom! That means Jack and Juliet were married in the sideways. Jack suggests they give his ticket to Claire. Juliet says sure. She`s curious to meet this mysterious sister of Jack`s. Jack tells Juliet she`ll love Claire — she`s very pregnant. Juliet smiles and wishes Jack good luck for the surgery.

WHOOOSH to Miles and Alpert as they reach the Dharma docks and untie an outrigger. Thunder rumbles, and Alpert says it`s going to be a hell of a storm. Miles notices something on Alpert and says welcome to the club. Miles reaches up and plucks a hair off Alpert`s head. Alpert got his first grey hair. Alpert reacts, emotional, realizing what it means and that he wants to live.

“In case you didn`t notice? I`m a pilot.”

They get in the outrigger and paddle across towards Hydra island. Suddenly, they hit something and Miles reacts. It`s the sub`s captain. Then they hear someone shouting for help. They look over and see Frank Lapidus clinging to life preservers from the sub. Lapidus explains what happened and asks what they are doing. Alpert tells him they`re stopping Locke from leaving the island by blowing up the plane. Lapidus asks them why they`d want to do that? If they leave, Locke won`t have a plane anymore. Alpert asks how they`re gonna do that? Lapidus says they`ll fly it off this damn island. In case they didn`t notice, he`s a pilot.

“Jack, I believe in you, dude.”

As Jack`s group treks through the jungle, Sawyer asks Jack what his surprise is for Locke. Jack says Desmond. He thinks Desmond is a weapon. They reach the edge of the bamboo forest, and Locke says it should be just Jack, Desmond and him. Jack agrees, and before he leaves, Hurley tells Jack that he believes in him.

“I think you`re a good guy, Sayid. I know a lot of people have told you that you`re not… Maybe you`ve heard it so many times that you started believing it. But you can`t let other people tell you what you are, dude. You have to decide for yourself.”

WHOOOSH to a street outside a bar where Hurley and Sayid wait. Sayid wants to know what they`re doing there, and Hurley tells him to trust him. The doors burst open as a fight spills out into the street. A woman rushes out trying to stop it, yelling not to hurt her brother. She pulls her brother away, but this makes the bigger guy angry and he backhands her. Sayid doesn`t even think — he is out of the Hummer and across the street. He grabs the bigger guy`s arm and drops him with a quick combo. He then crosses over to the woman to help her up, and it`s Shannon! The moment they touch — FLASH! A quick cacophony of images of the two of them from the island. FLASH! They stare in amazement, recognizing each other and falling into each others` arms.

WHOOOSH on the island as Miles tries again to reach Ben on the walkie. This time Ben answers. Ben tells Miles not to blow up the plane — Locke is going to destroy the island. Miles says Lapidus is going to fly the plane off the island, so everyone needs to get over there now. But then Claire steps out firing her rifle. Worried, Kate shouts into the walkie asking what`s happening. Claire is afraid Locke sent them to kill her. Alpert explains they`re not with Locke, but Claire doesn`t believe them. Alpert says they have a chance to get off the island and go home, and he invites her to come with them. Claire considers it but then says no and walks away.

“There are no shortcuts. No do-overs. What happened, happened. Trust me. I know. All of this matters.”

Locke leads Jack and Desmond to the stream that runs underground into the heart of the island. Desmond tells Jack that none of this matters. When he goes down into the light, he`ll be in a place where everyone they`ve ever lost is alive again. A place where they can be with the ones they love and not have to ever think about the island again. Jack is there and seemed happy. They met on Oceanic 815, and it never crashed. Maybe Desmond can find a way to bring Jack to that place. Jack shakes his head and says there are no do-overs. What happened, happened.

“You disrespect his memory by wearing his face, but you`re nothing like him. Turns out he was right about almost everything. I just wish I could`ve told him that while he was still alive.”

Locke secures a rope to a tree and ties the other end around Desmond. They wade into the alcove and begin lowering Desmond over the rushing waterfall into the light. Locke asks Jack if it reminds him of anything — Desmond going down into a hole in the ground, and maybe if there`s a button there they could fight over pushing, it`ll be just like old times. Jack turns to the thing in back of him and says he`s not John Locke and he disrespects Locke`s memory by wearing his face. Locke turns out to have been right about almost everything. And Jack wishes he could`ve said that to him while he was alive. But the Man in Black tells Jack that Locke was dead wrong. And when the island drops into the ocean and Jack along with it, Jack will finally realize it. Jack is undaunted and says they`ll have to see which one is right. Then suddenly the rope goes slack. Desmond has reached the bottom.

WHOOOSH to the concert check-in area. Juliet, David and Claire are at the front check-in area when Juliet receives a text on her phone. It`s the hospital. David understands and tells her to go ahead. Juliet promises to come back as soon as she can.

Jacob appears to the survivors of the submarine explosion and tells them what they were chosen for, while Ben joins forces with Locke as they both have a final showdown with Charles Widmore.

Lost 06×16 Details

Jack and David eat breakfast and discuss the concert they`re going to that evening when Claire comes in wishing them a good morning. Jack gets a call from Oceanic saying they located his dad`s missing coffin. It`ll be arriving in Los Angeles by the end of the day. Jack says thank you — and we cut to a car and reveal the person on the other end of the phone is Desmond! He says Oceanic is sorry it`s taken so long and hangs up.

“Locke did this to them. We have to kill him, Jack.”

WHOOOSH to the beach as Jack sews up Kate`s wound with a makeshift needle and thread. Kate cries, telling Jack that Sun and Jin had a daughter. Her name is Ji Yeon, and Jin never even met her. Hot with anger, Kate says it was Locke who did that to them… They have to kill Locke. Jack looks at Kate with complete agreement and says he knows.

Sawyer stands on the shore, staring at a life jacket bobbing on the surf. Kate walks up next to him, and she doesn`t even have to speak. She knows exactly what he`s thinking. Hurley comes up next to them, and that`s it — no eulogy. No words to compound their loss. Then Jack softly says they should get going. Hurley asks where, and Jack says to find Desmond. Before Sayid died, he said Desmond was in a well and that Locke wanted him dead. And if Locke wants Desmond dead? Then they need him.

“I`m not here to hurt him. I am here to help him let go.”

WHOOOSH to Locke in the school parking lot getting out of his van. One student waves and welcomes him back. But someone is watching him — and it`s Desmond. He puts his key in the ignition, revs the engine, and pops the car out of park. Is he going to run Locke over again? But right then Benjamin Linus THUMPS on his hood, shouting this is the man who hit Mr. Locke! Call the police! Desmond is up and out of the car — he smashes his fist into Ben`s face, who collapses on the hood. Desmond grabs him by the sweater and warns him to not get in his way. Ben says he won`t let him hurt Mr. Locke again, but Desmond says he`s not there to hurt him — he`s there to help him let go. Desmond punches Ben again — and FLASH! Ben is on a dock in a marina, and a Desmond is straddling Ben, pulling his fist back to hit him in the face — FLASH back to the school parking lot as Desmond punches Ben one last time and throws him to the side of the car into a puddle. Desmond gets in the car and screeches away as Ben stares at him, wondering what just happened to him.

WHOOOSH to the island as Ben treks through the jungle. Miles and Richard Alpert are with him. They reach the barracks, deserted and creepy, and walk by the swing set when Miles abruptly stops. Blinks. Cocks his head. Something`s happening. Ben asks what is it, and Miles is unsure what to tell Ben. Alpert says it`s Alex. After Ben left the island, Alpert came back and buried her. Ben is surprised and overwhelmed. He thanks Alpert, and they continue on to his house. They go inside, and Ben moves the bookshelf to get to the secret room. He opens a safe, and inside are bricks of C-4. Are they looking to cripple the plane or blow it to hell? Alpert says blow it to hell. Ben says then they`d better take it all.

Then behind them they hear footsteps. They emerge from the secret room, rifles up, and find Zoe in the kitchen. Ben asks who she is, and behind him Widmore answers. He`s the last man Ben thought he`d see on the island. Ben asks why Widmore is there. Widmore doesn`t take Ben or his rifle seriously and tells Zoe to go to the docks to get their equipment from the outrigger… and then sink it. Widmore tells Ben to lower his gun. If Ben shoots him, his only chance of surviving will be gone. Alpert says they are getting explosives to blow up the plane, but Widmore says he`s had the plane rigged with explosives since he got there. As usual, Ben is three steps behind. Ben asks how Widmore got back to the island, and Widmore says that Jacob invited him. Jacob visited him not long after they destroyed his freighter. He convinced Widmore of the error of his ways and told him everything he`d need to know for this exact purpose. Ben is incredulous and asks what “purpose.” But then Zoe radios in and says Locke is coming! Widmore tells her to run back to the house. He then turns to Ben and says if they want to live, they`ll have to hide.

“And then the strangest thing happened. While he was beating me, I think… I think I… saw something.”

WHOOOSH to the school nurse`s office as she tends to Ben. His arm is in a sling and his face is bruised and cut. She leaves to get him an ice pack as Locke wheels in. He`d heard there was an incident in the parking lot. Ben says he got into a fight with the man who ran Locke down. He was back, attacked Ben… and then the strangest thing happened. Ben thinks he saw something. But Locke isn`t listening. He`s calling the police. Ben continues and says the man wasn`t trying to hurt Locke but trying to get him to “let go.” And for some reason Ben believed him. Those words hit Locke hard. Ben asks if Locke knows what the man was talking about, if it means something to Locke.

On the other end of the phone, an LAPD cop hangs up in frustration. He looks up from his desk as Desmond walks up and asks to see a detective. Cut to Sawyer and Miles are at their desks. Miles wants to know if Sawyer will go with him to a benefit at his dad`s museum. It`s the concert he`s been talking about. Sawyer asks if Charlotte will be there, and Miles says yes. Sawyer passes. The cop leads Desmond over to them, and Desmond explains that there was a hit and run at a school a couple days ago, and this morning a man was badly beaten by the same suspect. He`s the suspect, and he`s there to turn himself in. Sawyer locks Desmond in a holding cage with Sayid. In the cage next to them is Kate. Desmond smiles at them, very much exactly where he wants to be.

WHOOOSH to the jungle as Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley trek through the jungle. Sawyer asks if Locke wanted Desmond dead, why didn`t he just kill him? Jack doesn`t know and says maybe it`s one of his “rules.” Sawyer says like the bomb on the sub. Jack sees Sawyer is hurting and doesn`t want to make it worse. Sawyer asks if he killed them, and Jack says no, it was Locke who killed them.

Trailing behind the group, Hurley sees young Jacob in the jungle. Young Jacob asks for the ashes Hurley took from Ilana`s things and says they`re his. Hurley holds the bag of ash out. The boy snatches it and runs off into the jungle. Hurley runs after him into a clearing with a campfire — where the adult Jacob waits. Hurley asks if he saw a kid run by with his ashes. Jacob points to the fire and says they`re in the fire. And when it goes out, Hurley will never see him again. He tells Hurley to go get his friends because they`re close to the end.

“These are both great plans… but I`m gonna go with surviving. If you need us, we`ll be running through the jungle.”

At Ben`s house as Widmore and Zoe scramble to hide from Locke, Ben says he has no interest in hiding. Sooner or later Locke will find him, and he`d rather get it over with. Miles says he`s interested in surviving and starts to leave. Ben asks for Widmore and Zoe`s walkies and gives one to Miles. Ben says it`s in case he needs Miles. Alpert says he`s going to go out and talk to Locke. He knows the man — he just wants Alpert to join him. If he can get Locke to leave with him, then maybe it`ll give everyone else a chance. Miles wishes him good luck and runs out.

“Well, you found me. Can I get you a glass of lemonade?”

Alpert goes outside and walks to the center of the compound. Ben follows him out and watches. They wait in the silence. Tension builds. It`s creepy — and then without warning — the smoke monster barrels out of the jungle and plows right into Alpert! It`s a battering ram of black smoke that launches Alpert into the jungle and out of sight. Ben reacts and watches as the smoke monster loops around the compound and jets behind a house. Ben sits in a chair on Sawyer`s porch. After a moment, Locke steps out and walks over to Ben. He`s just the man Locke has been looking for. He needs Ben to kill some people for him. Ben asks why, and Locke says that once he leaves the island, Ben can have it all to himself. Ben agrees. Locke asks whose outrigger is at the dock, and Ben doesn`t miss a beat as he says Charles Widmore`s, who`s hiding inside his closet.

WHOOOSH to the school parking lot as Ben is leaving. Alex runs up to him and says her mom will drive him home. Ben agrees and meets Alex`s mom, Danielle Rousseau. Danielle says that after everything Ben has done for her daughter, a ride home is the least she can do. Alex asks if Ben can stay for dinner, and Ben protests. But Danielle insists. Even if they have to kidnap him. After dinner, Ben asks about Alex`s dad, and Danielle says he died when she was two. That`s probably why she`s so attached to Ben. After all the interest he`s taken in her and help he`s given, he`s the closest thing to a father Alex ever had. Ben is touched, and a tear rolls down his cheek. Danielle says it`s been lovely finally meeting him, and Ben smiles. It seems it`s the beginning of something sweet.

“Did you say there were some other people to kill?”

WHOOOSH to the island as Ben leads Locke inside his house and points to the secret room where Widmore and Zoe are hiding. They enter, and Locke says it`ll be nice to talk without those fences between them. He turns to Zoe and asks who she is. Zoe starts to answer, but Widmore cuts her off, warning her not to talk to him — when SCHLICK!!! It happens so fast, so shocking — Locke pulled out his knife and slits Zoe`s throat! She falls over, gurgling and grasping her neck. Locke says if she wouldn`t talk it made her pointless. Locke then explains since Widmore isn`t afraid to die, there`s only one way to motivate him to tell Locke what he wants to know. Soon this will be over and Locke will get want he wants. And when he`s finally able to leave the island, the very first thing he`s going to do is kill Penny. Widmore says Locke will kill Penny whether he talks or not, but Locke promises he won`t. He`ll keep his word. Widmore weighs his choices and talks. He brought Desmond back because of his unique resistance to electromagnetism. He`s a measure of last resort — and then BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! Ben shoots and kills Widmore! Locke turns to Ben, and Ben says Widmore doesn`t get to save his daughter. Locke says Ben never ceases to amaze him. Fortunately, Widmore told him everything he needed. Ben says good. Are there some other people to kill?

“I want to know why! I want to know that Sun and Jin and Sayid didn`t die for nothing.”

Hurley leads Jack, Kate and Sawyer to the clearing where Jacob waits. Jacob says hello, and they can all see and hear him. Kate is angry and asks if he`s the one that wrote their names on the wall. Is that why Sun, Jin and Sayid were killed? Because he wrote their names down? Jacob says he`s sorry, but Kate doesn`t accept it. She wants to know why he put their names on that wall. She wants to know that Sun and Jin and Sayid didn`t die for nothing. Jacob tells her they died for something, and he`ll tell them why. He`ll also tell them why he chose them. And then he`ll tell them everything they need to know to protect the island. Because by the time the fire burns out, one of them is going to have to start doing it.

WHOOOSH to Jack`s office at the hospital. Locke knocks and rolls in, asks if Jack has a minute. He lists how many times they`ve crossed paths — from their first meeting at the airport to Jack performing his emergency surgery out of all the doctors in LA. Jack even wanted to fix him but Locke didn`t want to be fixed. Then today the man who ran him down was at his school again… not to hurt him but to help him “let go.” And that`s exactly what Jack said to Locke. So maybe all of this was happening for a reason. Maybe Jack was supposed to fix him. Jack warns Locke not to mistake coincidence for fate. Locke smiles and says he`s ready to get out of the wheelchair.

“Why do I gotta be punished for your mistake? What made you think you could mess with my life?”

WHOOOSH to the island as Jacob tells Jack`s group he doesn`t know really where to start. Hurley suggests starting with why he brought them all to the island. Jacob says it`s because he made a mistake a very long time ago, and because of that, there`s a very good chance everyone of them and everyone they`ve ever cared about will die. Sawyer asks what mistake, and Jacob says they call him the monster. Jacob is responsible for what happened to him. He made him that way. Sawyer asks why they have be punished for his mistake. Why`d Jacob have to mess with his life? He was doing fine until Jacob dragged him there. But Jacob says no, he wasn`t. None of them were. All of them were flawed.

Jacob chose them because they were like him — they were alone. They all had complicated relationships with their parents, and they were all looking for something they couldn`t find out there. He chose them because they needed the island as much as it needed them. Jack asks what`s the job, and Jacob says there`s a light at the center of the island and it can never go out. It has to be protected from the monster. One of them needs to do what Jacob wasn`t willing to. Jack asks if it`s even possible to kill it. Jacob says he hopes so because the smoke monster is certainly going to try to kill them.

“This is why I`m here. This is… this is what I`m supposed to do.”

Hurley asks how Jacob is going to pick, but Jacob says he`s not. He wants them to have the one thing that was never given to him — a choice. A beat as everyone considers that, and then Jack softly speaks up. He`ll do it. This is why he`s there. This is what he`s supposed to do.

WHOOOSH to the LAPD holding cage as Kate, Sayid and Desmond are taken out and put in a van for transport to county lock up. In the back as they drive, Desmond tells Sayid and Kate he thinks it`s time to leave. Are they ready to get out of there? Kate asks if he`s just going to tell the driver to stop, and Desmond says the driver already knows where to stop. And when that happens, they`re going to have to give him their trust. Because after he sets them free, he`s going to ask them to do something for him, and they have to promise to do it. Will they do that? Do they agree? Kate and Sayid say yes. The van skids to a halt, and Ana Lucia opens the door. Hurley pulls up behind her in his Hummer and hands her an envelope of money. She leaves, and Hurley asks why she`s not going with them? Desmond says she`s not ready. Hurley points to a nearby car, his Camaro, and says he brought it for Desmond. The key`s under the floormat, and everything he needs is in the trunk. Hurley takes Sayid and leaves. Desmond opens the trunk and hands Kate a beautiful cocktail dress. They`re going to a concert.

“And I thought that guy had a God complex before.”

WHOOOSH to the island as Jacob talks to Jack. He explains that beyond the bamboo field where Jack woke up when he first got to the island and across a ridge is the heart of the island. That`s where the light is, and that`s what Jack has to protect. Jack says past the bamboo there`s nothing there. Jacob says there is, and Jack will be able to get there now. Jacob asks for a cup, and Jack pulls out a metal cup from the sub that washed up on shore. Jacob says a prayer under his breath and fills the cup with water. He tells Jack to drink it. Jack asks how long he is going to have this job, and Jacob says as long as he can. Jack takes that leap of faith and drinks from the cup. Once again no magic. No skyrockets. Just this simple ceremony. Jacob places his hand on Jack`s shoulder and says now he`s like him.

“I`m gonna destroy the island.”

Locke and Ben trek through the jungle. Ben asks why Locke walks if he can turn into smoke whenever he wants. Locke says he likes the feel of his feet on the ground. Reminds him that he was human. They cut through the brush and into a clearing with the well. Locke says they`re here. Locke looks into the well and sees that it`s empty. He says this is where he had Desmond and told Sayid to kill him. Obviously he didn`t. Ben looks at the rope hanging over the side and says it looks like someone helped Desmond out, but Locke says someone helped me out. Ben is confused. Locke explains that Desmond was a fail-safe, Jacob`s last resort if Locke managed to kill all of his candidates. Locke is going to find Desmond, and Desmond is going to help Locke do the one thing he could never do by himself. Locke is going to destroy the island.

Hurley agonizes over what the group`s next move should be; Locke is curious about the new arrival in his camp.

Lost 06×12 Details

Hurley is presented the man of the year award for all his philanthropy work at the opening of the Hugo Reyes Paleontology Wing at the Golden State Natural History Museum. However, Hurley`s mom, Carmen, isn`t happy that Hurley doesn`t have a woman in his life. Hurley says he`s too busy, but Carmen thinks he`s too scared. Hurley denies it – and she says good. She`s set him up on a blind date for tomorrow. It`s with Grandpa Tito`s neighbor`s daughter, Rosalita. Hurley asks what she`s like, and Carmen says willing to meet him. If she doesn`t love Hurley, they`ll find someone who will.

“Lotta crazy stuff`s been happening. Kinda wish I could tell you about it in person…”

WHOOOSH to island. Hurley sits at Libby`s grave talking to her. He asks why she hasn`t come to visit him yet. Ilana interrupts him – she`s going to the Black Rock to get some dynamite to blow up the Ajira plane. Hurley asks if that`s really the right move. Ilana says she doesn`t know, but it`s the only move they have to stop Locke from leaving the island. Ilana leaves… and Hurley hears the whispers. He tenses, looks around – and Michael Dawson steps out from the jungle. Michael says he`s there to save Hurley from getting everyone killed. Blowing up the Ajira plane is going to kill a lot of people. And it will be Hurley`s fault because everyone`s listening to him now. Jack interrupts them and tells Hurley`s they`re leaving.

WHOOOSH to a Mexican restaurant as Hurley waits for his date. A woman approaches his table and asks if he`s Hurley. He looks up, and the woman is Libby! Hurley is awestruck. He didn`t expect to meet someone as pretty as she is. He says she doesn`t look like a Rosalita, and Libby smiles. That`s not her name. She introduces herself, and Hurley is confused. How`d she know his name? Libby says she`ll tell him, but he`ll think she`s crazy. Hurley smiles and says no, he won`t. Libby asks if he believes two people can be… connected? Like soul mates. Hurley shrugs. He guesses. Libby is disappointed. Hurley doesn`t remember her, does he? This confuses Hurley more. Should he?

Then a man comes over. It`s Dr. Brooks from the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute, but in the flash sideways, Dr. Brooks and Hurley don`t know each other either. Hurley has never been committed to Santa Rosa. Dr. Brooks asks Elizabeth if she`s bothering this man. Libby says no, Hurley is an old friend. Dr. Brooks apologizes for the intrusion and escorts Libby out. Before she goes, Libby tells Hurley she meant everything she said. Stunned by the encounter, Hurley hurries out as Libby gets into a van with the mental institute`s name on it. As they drive away, Libby waves to Hurley.

“Those bastards on the other island grabbed Jin, and we`re just sitting around twiddlin` our damn thumbs doin` nothing about it.”

WHOOOSH to Locke`s camp in the jungle. Sawyer is unhappy that Locke is doing nothing about Widmore`s men taking Jin. Locke says there`s a difference between doing nothing and waiting. Kate asks what they`re waiting for. Locke says they`re waiting for Hugo, Sun and Jack to get there because if they are going get off the island, they can only do it if they`re all together.

Sayid returns and updates Locke. He didn`t see Widmore, but Widmore`s people saw him. Locke is surprised Sayid let them live. Sayid says he didn`t see the point of killing them once he had what he went for. Locke asks if Sayid found what Widmore was hiding – and Sayid reveals Desmond Hume tied to a tree. Locke is surprised but then confused. Why did Widmore bring Desmond back to the island?

At the beach camp, Ilana returns with the dynamite. She wants to leave right then so they can make it to Hydra island by nightfall. Hurley is unsure about the crusted, oozing, old and volatile dynamite, but Ilana tells him to trust her. She`s been training to protect them for her whole life. With the plane gone, that thing won`t be able to leave the island. But Hurley points out neither will they. Ilana says Richard will know what to do. Nothing is more important than this. That thing is evil, and if it ever leaves the island –

“I promised Sun I`d get her off this island.”

KA-BLAAAAM!!! The dynamite explodes, vaporizing Ilana and blowing everyone else off their feet. They`re shocked. Hurley stares at the place where she just stood in utter disbelief. His worst fears are coming true – people are dying. Hurley gets up and goes over to Ilana`s things. He finds the pouch with Jacob`s ashes, slips into his pocket. Sun writes a note on her pad – who`s going to protect us now? Alpert says they go get more dynamite, but Jack disagrees. They argue, but Hurley interjects. He thinks Richard is right. It`s the only choice they have. He tells Jack to trust him.

“She`s totally awesome. Except for one thing. She`s crazy.”

WHOOOSH to a Mr. Cluck`s restaurant as a despondent Hurley plows through a bucket of chicken. He notices a guy staring at him. It`s Desmond, and he walks over. Have they seen each other before? Hurley says Desmond probably saw his commercials, but Desmond says no, they were both on flight 815. Hurley is unimpressed. Desmond notices that Hurley has a lot of chicken. Hurley says he eats when he`s depressed. Desmond asks what`s the girl`s name? Hurley explains he met Libby on a blind date but she`s crazy and lives in the loony bin. She seemed sane, but then she said they already knew each other. Desmond says maybe she did believe she knew him. Desmond tells Hurley to go with his gut. He should at least find out where she thinks she knows him from before Hurley gives up on her.

WHOOOSH to the jungle as Locke asks Desmond why Widmore brought him back to the island. Desmond says he was kidnapped, so they`d have to ask Widmore, who threw him into a wood shack and blasted him with a massive amount of electromagnetism. Locke asks how Desmond knows what it was, and Desmond simply says experience. Locke sends Sayid back to the camp and says Desmond and him need to take a walk. He wants to show Desmond something.

“We`re dead. We`re all dead.”

Jack, Sun, Miles, Lapidus, Ben and Alpert reach the Black Rock. Alpert says it`ll only take a few minutes and he doesn`t want anyone but him to handle the dynamite – and then he realizes Hurley isn`t with them. They call out for Hurley, and he comes running out of the ship yelling for everyone to go, get down! Then – KAH-FWWOOOOOM!!! The Black Rock explodes! The group is blown back by the blast. Alpert gets up and asks why Hurley did that. Hurley says he`s protecting them. Alpert is furious and charges towards Hurley. Jack holds him back. Alpert asks what they`re supposed to do now? They`re dead. They`re all dead. Miles asks Hurley why he did it, and Hurley confesses that Michael told him to.

WHOOOSH to Santa Rosa where Hurley visits Libby. She`s happy that Hurley remembered her, but he says no, he doesn`t. He wants to know where she thinks she knows him from. Libby says it won`t make any sense. A few days ago she was watching one of his commercials, and it hit her. All these memories came washing back of her life… only it was another life. There was a plane crash, and she was on an island. Hurley was there, and they liked each other. And she had a memory of being at Santa Rosa before, and Hurley was there, too. Libby can`t get him out of her brain. So when she saw him the other night, she hoped he remembered her because that would mean… Hurley apologizes but says he wishes he remembered her. Libby smiles and says it`s okay. She`s crazy. But Hurley asks if she can get out of there, like on a day pass or something. Libby says yes, she`s there voluntarily, and Hurley asks her out on a date.

WHOOOSH to the Black Rock as Alpert asks Ben about the barracks and if there are still grenades and explosives there. Ben says yes, and Alpert tells everyone that`s where they`re going. Jack wants to talk about it, but Alpert says there`s no time to talk. If Jack knows what they need to do to stop that thing from leaving the island, then let`s hear it. Hurley says he knows what they need to do. They have to go talk to Locke. It`s not his idea, it`s Jacob`s – and Hurley points to an empty spot in the jungle. Jacob wants them to talk to Locke. It`s his idea, so Hurley guesses they better do it. Alpert doesn`t believe him and asks Hurley to prove it by asking Jacob what the island is. Hurley says he doesn`t have to prove anything. They can either come with him and talk to Locke or they can keep trying to blow stuff up. Alpert thinks Hurley is lying, but Jack believes him. Alpert says he`s going to destroy that plane and asks for any help he can get. Ben agrees to go with Alpert, and so does Miles. Miles tells Hurley he`s seen that thing in action and it doesn`t want to talk. They leave, and Alpert warns them to not get in their way. Jack, Sun, Miles, Lapidus and Hurley head off to Locke`s camp.

“There`s nothing special about me, brother. This island has it out for all of us.”

Locke leads Desmond through a savannah of tall grass. Locke comments that Desmond was there for three years pushing that button, and now he`s back for more. If Locke didn`t know better, he`d say the island has it out for Desmond. But Desmond says there`s nothing special about him – the island has it out for all of them. Then they see the teenage boy again. Desmond asks who it is, and Locke says to ignore him.

“You have no idea how hard it is for me to sit back and listen to other people tell me what I should do. But I think maybe that`s the point. Maybe… Maybe I`m supposed to let go.”

As Hurley`s group treks to Locke`s camp, Hurley asks why Jack came with him. Jack admits it`s hard for him to sit back and listen to other people tell him what to do. Ever since Juliet died, since he got her killed, he`s just wanted to fix it. But he can`t. He can`t ever fix it… and maybe that`s the point. Maybe he`s supposed to let go. That`s why he`s trusting Hurley. Just then they hear the whispers. They`re not alone out there, and they swing their weapons around. Hurley realizes something and tells them to wait. He thinks he knows what the whispers are. Hurley walks through the jungle to a ridge calling out for Michael, and the whispers stop. Michael steps out. Hurley guesses it`s people who are stuck on the island, and Michael nods. They can`t move on. Hurley asks if Michael can show him where Locke`s camp is, and Michael points to a tiny yellow camp fire in the distance. Hurley asks if there`s anything he can do to help him move on, and Michael says to not get killed. Before Michael leaves, he asks Hurley if he ever sees Libby again, to tell her he`s sorry. Hurley agrees.

WHOOOSH to the Santa Monica beach as Hurley and Libby sit on blankets and have a picnic for their date. Libby says it feels a little off yet familiar, like a date they never had. She asks why Hurley wants to be with her, but Hurley asks her the same thing. Libby says because she likes him. Hurley says it`s only because she`s delusional. Libby leans over and kisses him. It`s tender and sweet – and suddenly Hurley`s remembers moments with Libby on the island. His eyes pop open, and he looks at her thunderstruck. He says he thinks he remembers stuff. Libby is happy. Maybe she`s not crazy, and Hurley says no, he doesn`t think she is.

Watching them together from a car in the parking lot is Desmond – and he`s smiling like it`s all going to plan. But what that plan is we have no idea. Desmond starts the car and drives away.

“What is the point of being afraid?”

WHOOOSH to the jungle as Locke leads Desmond to a well in a clearing. They wonder how deep it is, and Locke drops one of their torches down into it. It tumbles end over end and hits water at the bottom. Locke says the well is very old, so old that the people who dug it did it completely by hand. They weren`t just looking for water – they were looking for answers. Places like where they`re standing made compass needles spin, and people needed to know why. So they dug but they didn`t find what they were looking for. Locke brought Desmond out there because people like Charles Widmore aren`t interested in answers. He`s interested in power. And Widmore brought Desmond back to the island to help Widmore find what he`s looking for. After all, this isn`t the only well. Locke realizes that Desmond isn`t afraid and asks why he`s not. Desmond asks what`s the point of being afraid? And then – Locke pushes Desmond into the well! Desmond falls through the dark shaft and SPLASH! Hits the water.

Locke returns to his camp. Sayid asks where Desmond is, and Locke says they don`t have to worry about him. Then Hurley steps out of the jungle and approaches Locke. Hurley says he doesn`t know who Locke is, but they need to talk. There are other people with him, and he doesn`t want anyone getting hurt. They`re not going to do anything, and he wants Locke`s word that he won`t do anything either. Locke agrees. Hurley yells for them to come out, and Lapidus, Sun and Jack step out. Locke seems very pleased to see them. He says hello to Jack, who is stunned to see Locke alive.

WHOOOSH to Desmond waiting in his car outside a school. Kids file out, and then Desmond sees John Locke exit, wheeling his way towards the crosswalk. Ben taps on the window and asks what Desmond is doing. He`s been parked there a while watching the school. Does Desmond have a child that goes here? Desmond lies and says he`s moved to the neighborhood and looking for a place for his son. As a teacher, Ben vouches for the school and says it`s wonderful. Desmond sees that Locke is wheeling across the street towards his van. Desmond drops the car into gear, guns it, screeching out of his spot, bearing down on Locke at top speed and – BAM!!!

The wheelchair makes a sickening sound as it smashes into the front of the car and rolls up on the hood. Locke goes flying, a limp rag doll pinwheeling away – and Desmond keeps on driving! It`s a hit and run! Ben is in shock but quickly shouts out for someone to call 911. He rushes over to Locke, telling him they`re going to get him to the hospital, but Locke is in serious trouble.

Locke sends Sawyer on a recon mission to the other island, where he runs into Charles Widmore and his submarine crew. In Los Angeles, Sawyer works as a police officer obsessed with finding the conman who destroyed his family.

Lost 06×08 Details

Sawyer goes inside Claire`s hovel. Jin is there and says that Claire and John will be back soon. He wants to leave before they get back, but Sawyer says he`s with Locke. Jin is surprised and asks why. Sawyer doesn`t care who Locke is but he says he can get them off the island. Jin doesn`t want to leave until he finds Sun. Sawyer understands and says they won`t leave without her. Sawyer hears them return, and they go outside and are surprised to see that a group of the Others came with Claire and Locke. Then Sawyer sees Kate, and it`s the last person he expected to see.

WHOOOSH to hotel bedroom. Sawyer`s in bed with Ava. She realizes he`s late for an appointment, and he jumps up, throws his clothes on, grabs a briefcase — and the case pops open. Piles of cash fall out. Yep, this is Sawyer`s old con, and he`s trying it on a new victim. Sawyer pretends to be “busted” and explains the “investment” — but then Ava pulls a gun on him and demands the money. She knows how to spot a con man, she`s married to one. How stupid does he think she is? Sawyer says pretty damn stupid actually. It`s a set-up. The room is bugged, cops surround the place, and a tracer is in the briefcase. All she had to do was take the money back to wherever her husband was hiding out. Ava doesn`t believe him and says he`s a lousy con man. She raises the gun and cocks it — and Sawyer says the magic word: “LaFleur.” Suddenly cops break down the door and arrest Ava. Miles walks in, an LAPD badge dangling from his neck, and shakes his head. He says put your damn pants on… partner. Then Miles tosses Sawyer his badge. Ava is shocked — he`s a cop?! Sawyer winks at her. That`s right, sweetheart. Surprise.

“You`re with me now and I promise, I`ll keep you safe.”

WHOOOSH to the jungle outside Claire`s hovel as Locke addresses the group. He knows they have questions and he`ll answer them, but they need to keep moving. Cindy asks about the people who stayed behind at the Temple, and Locke says the black smoke killed them. But they`re with him now and he`ll protect them. As they head out, Kate asks if Sawyer is with Locke. Sawyer says he`s not with anybody.

WHOOOSH to a LAPD police station. Sawyer is on the phone with Anthony Cooper. He has a list of Anthony Coopers all over the country he is calling and pretending to have unclaimed property, asking them to verify they were in Alabama in 1976. But this one isn`t the one he wants, and he hangs up. He tries another one right as Miles walks over. Sawyer hangs up and hides the file. Miles asks who Anthony Cooper is, and Sawyer lies. Says it was a buddy offering Laker tickets. Miles asks if Sawyer saw him in Palm Springs. Sawyer is confused. Miles reminds him about his weekend trip. Sawyer is a little off his game and covers quickly. Oh, yeah. Too much sun and too many mai tais. Miles tells him to get it together because Sawyer has a date tonight. Sawyer is again thrown off. What date? With Miles` friend who works with his dad at the museum. Sawyer shakes his head. No, thanks. Miles asks if Sawyer wants to die alone. Sawyer asks if he agrees, will Miles leave him alone. Miles tells him to throw in one of the Laker tickets and he will. Sawyer backpedals — he`s already pulling strings with this guy and doesn`t think he can get an extra ticket. Miles senses something isn`t right and reminds Sawyer that he can tell him the truth about anything. Miles then directly asks if Sawyer is lying to him. Sawyer says he`s telling the truth. Why would he lie?

“I don`t want to be killed, James.”

WHOOOSH to the island as Locke`s group treks through the jungle. Sawyer confronts Locke about killing everyone at the Temple. Locke says he gave them the opportunity to leave peacefully but they didn`t. They thought they were protecting the island from him even though all he wants to do is leave. So it was either kill or be killed, and Locke doesn`t want to be killed. Sawyer and Locke reach a small outrigger parked on the sand. Locke wants Sawyer to go over to Hydra island and see if the coast is clear. He has reason to believe the rest of the people from the Ajira flight mean to do all of them harm. Sawyer asks what he`s supposed to do if he runs into someone who wants to do him harm? Locke`s not worried. Sawyer is the best liar he`s ever met. Tell them whatever he needs to tell them to gain their trust and find out everything he can. Sawyer asks why he`s doing this, and Locke says because they`re going to get on that plane, fly off the island… and never look back.

At Locke`s camp, Claire attacks Kate. Claire is ferocious. There`s a savage glare in her eye. She pins Kate, grabs a knife, and is about to slice open her neck when Locke returns and throws Claire off Kate. Claire screams that Kate stole her son! Locke reminds Claire that she disappeared. Kate couldn`t find her and did what she had to do. Claire continues screaming, and Locke slaps her. He says she`s being inappropriate and sends her away. Locke apologizes to Kate and says it won`t happen again. He promises.

At Hydra island, Sawyer rows up and hides the outrigger. The beach is empty. Not a soul in sight. He cuts through the tree line and finds the cages where he and Kate were kept prisoner. In Kate`s old cage, he finds her flowered dress, the one Ben made her wear. He picks it up and remembers her wearing it.

“Well it`s a pleasure to meet you, ma`am.”

WHOOOSH to a restaurant as Sawyer strolls in ready to meet his date. He calls Miles and asks which one she is again. Miles tells him, and Sawyer spots her. She`s the redhead at the bar. It`s Charlotte! They smile at each other, suddenly very pleased to be on a blind date. They have dinner and flirt a lot. Charlotte asks why he became a cop. Sawyer says he got to a point in his life where he was gonna end up a criminal or a cop, so he chose cop. They go back to his apartment and make love. Afterwards, she asks if she can grab a t-shirt. Sawyer tells her to help herself as he gets them some water. Charlotte opens his drawer and finds his Anthony Cooper file. As she flips through it, Sawyer comes back into the room and catches her. He yells at her and tells her to get out.

The next day Miles confronts Sawyer, asking if there`s something Sawyer wants to tell him. Sawyer thinks it`s about Charlotte, but that`s not it. Miles wants to know why Sawyer was in Australia when he said he was in Palm Springs. He ran Sawyer`s credit card and saw the Oceanic round-trip charge. Sawyer is angry and tells Miles it`s none of his damn business. Miles is hurt and tells Sawyer he`s right because they`re not partners anymore.

“All right. You got me. Take me to your leader.”

WHOOOSH to Hydra island as Sawyer continues to explore. He finds the Ajira plane and the survivors` camp but not a single person. He notices drag marks in the sand and follows them to discover a stack of dead bodies. It`s the Ajira survivors, and they`re all dead. Then CRACK! A branch snaps behind him, and he whips around, gun drawn. A figure in the trees runs away. Sawyer runs after it, lunges forward, tackling the person. It`s a woman, and she begs him not to hurt her. She tells him she`s the only one left. Her name is Zoe, and she tells him she was off gathering wood when she heard screaming. When she came back, they were all dead. She spent the last two days dragging them off the beach. Sawyer tells her she`s safe now and that she`s going back with him. As they head back to the outrigger, Sawyer asks where she was headed on the flight. Zoe hesitates, thinking, and then says Guam. Sawyer pulls his gun on her and says she`s good but not that good. He asks who she really is, but then she whistles. Out of nowhere come five armed men surrounding Sawyer. Seamus forces Sawyer to drop his gun and get on his knees. Sawyer easily complies and says they got him. Take him to their leader.

WHOOOSH to Sawyer at home that night alone. He has an empty, lonely apartment. He heats a microwave meal and watches TV. On screen is a loving family, reminding Sawyer of the life he doesn`t have. Good and drunk, he decides to go to Charlotte`s apartment. Once she sees who it is, she tells him to leave. He blew it.

The next morning Sawyer waits for Miles outside his apartment. He explains who Anthony Cooper is and what he did. He had tracked him down to Australia and went down there to kill him but it was the wrong one. Miles asks why Sawyer didn`t tell him any of this, and Sawyer says he knew Miles would try to talk him out of it. And then BAM! They`re rear-ended by another car. The person driving jumps out and runs off down a side street, and Sawyer and Miles take off in pursuit. They drive around the corner, block off the street — and Sawyer jumps the runner. He flips the person around, and we see that the person is none other than Kate Austen.

WHOOOSH to Sawyer being marched through the jungle. He sees some men hoisting a small pylon, a portable version of the sonic fence. Zoe and the men lead him to a submarine. She indicates for him to go in and says he`s waiting. Sawyer is lead through the submarine and passes a padlocked door. Sawyer asks what`s in there. Zoe tells him it`s none of his business. She escorts Sawyer into a private room where he meets Charles Widmore. Sawyer knows who Widmore is — he`s the guys that sent the freighter with the guys to kill them all. Sawyer also believes Widmore killed all the people on the beach. Widmore denies murdering those people but doesn`t expect Sawyer to believe him. Sawyer explains that John Locke sent him over, but Widmore knows Locke is dead. Sawyer smiles and says they both know the man posing as Locke really isn`t him. Walking in, Sawyer saw the pylon and knows what it does. So Sawyer makes a deal with Widmore: Sawyer will tell Locke the coast is clear and lead him to Widmore`s doorstep, but Widmore`s people can`t touch anyone in his boat. Sawyer wants safe passage off the island. Widmore agrees.

At Locke`s camp, Claire apologizes to Kate and thanks her for taking care of Aaron. Kate accepts her apology, and Claire breaks down crying in her arms. Sawyer returns, and he tells Locke that Charles Widmore is over on Hydra island and won`t let them take the plane without a fight. He also says they have pylons to keep out the smoke thing. Locke asks why Sawyer is telling him all this, and Sawyer explains that Widmore will be caught with his pants down when they change their attack plans. Locke thanks Sawyer for his loyalty. Sawyer says a deal`s a deal, and Locke promised he`d get Sawyer off the island.

“We ain`t taking the plane, Freckles. We`re taking the sub.”

Sawyer walks over to Kate and talks to her privately, telling her everything that`s happened. He explains that he told Locke everything because it was the only way to get Locke to trust him. Now he`s going to let them fight it out. And while their hands are full with each other, they`re going to get the hell off this island. Kate asks how, he doesn`t know how to fly the plane. Sawyer says they ain`t taking the plane — they`re taking the sub.

Ilana prepares to kill Ben after Miles reveals that Ben killed Jacob. In Los Angeles, Ben contemplates a power play at his high school. Meanwhile Richard and Jack share their secrets and experiences with Jacob and form an alliance.

Lost 06×07 Details

“And it was on this island that everything changed. That everything finally became clear.”

“Because exile wasn`t the worst of his fate. What was truly devastating to him was the loss of his power.”

Ben is in a classroom teaching European history. The bell rings, and Principal Reynolds approaches Ben. The principal is gruff and exudes power. He`s also a douche, but Ben is still intimidated by him. Principal Reynolds explains that Ben will have to supervise detention today. Ben protests, he`s got a history club meeting, but Reynolds doesn`t care. Ben vents his frustration in the teacher`s lounge. Taking care of the kids is what`s important. Locke, the substitute teacher, is impressed and says maybe Ben should be principal. Ben asks who would listen to him, and Locke says he would.

“He was standing over Jacob`s dead body with a bloody dagger.”

WHOOOSH to the Ben on the island. He`s trekking through the jungle at night with Ilana, Sun, Lapidus and Miles — running away from the massacre at the Temple they just witnessed. Ben tells them that Sayid was back at the Temple and killed Dogen and Lennon. They don`t know where to go, and Ben suggests going back to the beach camp. Miles asks what was that thing at the Temple, and Ben says it`s the same thing that killed Ilana`s friends at the foot statue. Ilana seizes upon this and asks if it killed Jacob. Ben lies and says of course. Ilana tosses Miles the leather pouch containing Jacob`s ashes. She knows that Miles can communicate with the dead and asks him to tell her how Jacob died. Miles does his thing, and then he looks at Ben. He killed Jacob. Ilana is upset and tells Ben that Jacob was the closest thing she ever had to a father.

WHOOOSH to Ben at home taking care of his father, Roger. Ben prepares their dinner and brings it to him. Roger is in bad shape. He breathes with the help of an oxygen tank and has a lot of medical supplies at hand. Roger says this isn`t the life he wanted for Ben. That`s why he signed up for the Dharma Initiative and took him to that island. It was supposed to be a better life. Imagine how different their lives would`ve been had they stayed. The doorbell rings, and it`s one of Ben`s students, Alex Rousseau. She asks where he was today because they had to cancel history club. Ben explains he`s covering detention for the next week, and Alex is upset. She`s needs the tutoring for the A.P. test. Ben suggests they meet in the library tomorrow at 7AM, and Alex agrees.

WHOOOSH to the beach camp as Ilana starts working on the shelters and everyone divvies up tasks. Lapidus works on building a fire, and Miles and Sun clean up the kitchen looking for any remaining food. Sun tells Ilana she needs to find Jin, and Ilana understands. If anyone wants to find him it`s her. Sun is confused. Why? Ilana explains that both their last names is Kwon, and she`s not sure if she has to protect her, Jin or both of them. Sun asks what Ilana means by “protect them.” Ilana says that they`re both candidates to replace Jacob, and there are only six candidates left. Sun asks who are they?

Cut to Hurley and Jack at their makeshift camp. Jack wants to start back to the Temple so they can get there by nightfall. As they trek back, they meet Richard Alpert. He offers to show them the right way to the Temple, and they follow him.

At the beach camp, Ben is going through Sawyer`s stash. Ilana comes up behind him and holds a gun on him. She forces him up to the graveyard at Boone Hill. Ilana ties a piece of cable around a tree, and with the other end of the cable she creates a makeshift shackle. She slaps the shackle on Ben`s leg and tethers him to the cable like a dog. She throws down a shovel and tells him to start digging. Ben asks why, and Ilana says coldly that since Ben murdered Jacob, Ben is going to dig his own grave

WHOOOSH to the library as Ben helps tutor Alex. She`s stressed, and Ben says it`s just a test. But to Alex it`s her life. If she doesn`t ace the test, she won`t be able to get into Yale. She also needs a letter of recommendation from someone who went there, and the only one she knows is that pervert, Principal Reynolds. Ben asks why she called Reynolds a pervert, and Alex begs him not to repeat this. She was sick in the nurse`s office a few months ago, and Reynolds came in. They thought she was asleep, and they did it there in the office. Ben is shocked and promises not to say anything.

“Right up until the second the knife went through his heart he was hoping he was wrong about you.”

WHOOOSH back to the beach as Ben digs the grave and Ilana watches over him with a rifle. Ben offers Miles money if he cuts him loose, but Miles says he doesn`t need Ben`s money. There are two jabonies named Nikki and Paulo buried alive with over eight million dollars in diamonds. Ben is angry and says Ilana is going to murder him just for killing someone who didn`t even care about getting killed. But Miles tells Ben that Jacob did care and hoped he was wrong about Ben right up until the second the knife went through his heart.

“Jacob gave me a gift.”

Jack and Hurley follow Richard Alpert through the jungle, but he leads them to the Black Rock instead of the Temple. He tells them that everyone at the Temple is dead. He`s not sure what happened but there were no survivors. Jack realizes that Hurley knew about this, and Hurley admits that Jacob might`ve hinted at it. Richard tells Hurley not to believe anything that Jacob says and walks into the Black Rock. Jack asks where he`s going, and Richard says to die.

WHOOOSH to the high school biology lab as Ben talks to Leslie Arzt about breaking into the nurse`s email account. Arzt wants to know what`s going on before he`ll help, and Ben tells him that she may be engaged in an inappropriate relationship with Principal Reynolds. Arzt realizes Ben is making a play for the principal`s job and wants in. He wants a specific parking spot and lab equipment. Ben agrees to his demands.

“So why do I want to die? Because I just found out my entire life had no purpose.”

WHOOOSH to the Black Rock. Richard is inside and looks at a wall with scrawled hash marks. He picks up an empty manacle and stares at it. Behind him Jack enters and asks if he`s been there before. Richard says yes, and after all his time on the island, today is the first time he`s ever come back. Alpert opens up a crate of dynamite, and Hurley warns him that it`s unstable. Richard assures him that he can`t kill himself even if he wanted to — and trust him, he wants to. That`s why he wants Jack to do it for him. As Richard unwinds a piece of wire from a spool, he explains that Jacob touched him and it`s considered a gift… except it`s not a gift at all. It`s a curse. Jack asks him why he wants to die, and Richard says because he devoted his life in service to a man who said everything was happening for a reason. That he had a plan. And when the time was right, he`d share that plan with Richard. But now that man is dead, and Richard`s life has no purpose. He holds up the fuse and says if he lights it, it won`t work. But Jack can light it and it`ll work. The fuse is long enough for him to get out. Jack agrees and lights the fuse… and then sits down! As the fuse burns inexorably toward the dynamite, Jack looks at Richard and says it`s time to talk.

Hurley freaks out, but Jack is confident he`ll be fine. Hurley leaves. Richard says Jack will die, but Jack doesn`t think so. He just came from a lighthouse with his name etched in wood on a dial that turned a mirror that somehow reflected the house he grew up in. For some reason, Jacob wanted Jack to see that lighthouse and know that he was being watched since he was a kid. He doesn`t know why, but if Jacob went to all that trouble, he brought Jack to the island for a reason. They watch as the fuse burns closer to the dynamite… And closer… They only have a few seconds left… then FSSST. The fuse fizzles out. Jack asks if Richard wants to try another stick. Richard asks since Jack seems to have all the answers, what do they do now? Jack says they go back to where they started.

At the beach camp, Ben continues digging when he hears the TIKKA TIKKA TIKKA sound of the smoke monster. He looks around but doesn`t see the smoke monster. Then behind him Locke walks up and asks what he`s doing. Ben says digging his own grave. Locke got what he wanted, and now Ilana is going to kill him. But Locke doesn`t want Ben to die. He went back to the statue to get Ben, but he had already gone. Locke is gathering a group to leave the island for good, and once he`s gone, he`s going to need someone to be in charge of the island. He can`t think of a better man for the job than Ben. Locke points to the shackle — it`s no longer attached to Ben`s ankle. Ben is free. Locke tells Ben he`ll be waiting at the Hydra island. Two hundred yards inland is a clearing with a rifle leaning against a tree. If Ben goes now, he`ll get there first. Don`t hesitate to shoot because Ilana won`t. Locke leaves, and Ben scopes out the situation. Ilana is off in the distance. She looks up and see Ben. They make eye contact… and then he bolts into the jungle! Ilana yells and chases him.

WHOOOSH to Principal Reynolds` office as Ben confronts him with the emails about his affair. It`s quite lascivious stuff. Describing an act that took place on school property. An act that the school board would not approve of, not to mention Reynolds` wife. Reynolds asks what Ben wants. Ben says Reynolds has to resign and recommend Ben as his replacement. Reynolds then reads Ben an email from Alex, one where she asks for a letter of recommendation to Yale. Funny thing about recommendations is they work both ways. So he puts the ball back in Ben`s court. Is power that important to him? Ben can go for his job, but doing so will torch Alex`s future. Reynolds ask if Ben can live with that type of collateral damage.

WHOOOSH to the jungle as Ben reaches the rifle, grabs it and whips around, aiming at Ilana. She screeches to a halt, shocked to see Ben armed. She drops her rifle and waits for Ben to shoot her. Ben explains that he knows what Ilana is feeling because he felt it, too. He watched his daughter die in front of him… and it was his fault. He had a chance to save her, but he chose the island over her. All in the name of Jacob, a man he`d never met but whom he had pledged his allegiance. Ben sacrificed everything for Jacob, and Jacob didn`t even care. So Ben stabbed him. He was angry. Confused. Terrified that he would lose the only thing that mattered to him, which was his power. But the thing that really mattered was already gone. He apologizes to Ilana for killing Jacob and knows she could never forgive him because he can`t forgive himself. Ilana asks what he`ll do, and Ben says go to Locke because he`s the only one who`ll have him. Ilana thinks for a moment and says that she`ll have him. She turns and heads back to the camp. Ilana is the first person to show Ben any mercy, and he follows her.

WHOOOSH to the high school principal`s office as Ben enters. Did he sell Alex out and become the new principal? Alex knocks and comes in, surprised to see Ben there. She tells him that Principal Reynold wrote her an incredible letter of recommendation. She asks if Ben had anything to do with it, and Ben says no. She`s a great student and did it all on her own. Reynolds comes in and asks what Ben is doing there. Ben says just dropping off the detention sign-in sheets for the week. Ben says he`ll see Alex in history club. It`s back on, right? Resigned, Reynolds says yes. As he leaves, Arzt comes up to him and asks if he did it. Ben says no. Arzt is disappointed and asks about his parking spot. Ben decides to give Arzt his own.

WHOOOSH to the beach camp as Ben returns with Ilana. He offers Sun some help, and they set up her shelter. Then Hurley, Jack and Richard walk out of the jungle and join them. It`s a bittersweet reunion… and as the camera cut to the ocean, a submarine periscope juts up out of the water. Below in the sub, a crewman is watching the reunion on the beach. He asks if they should stop… and Charles Widmore is sitting next to him. He says no, proceed as planned.

Sayid faces a difficult decision; Claire sends a warning to the temple inhabitants.

Lost 06×06 Details

Sayid sits in a taxi outside a suburban house and stares at the photo of Nadia. Finally he gets out and rings the doorbell. Nadia answers, and they fall into a hug. But it`s not the type of long-lost romantic hug you`d expect after years of estrangement. And then a young boy and girl run out and wrap their arms around him shouting Uncle Sayid is here! A man also steps out and sees the flowers Sayid holds. He`s surprised that Sayid would bring flowers for his wife. Sayid smiles and offers them to the man. They hug, and Sayid says it`s good to see you, brother.

Later at dinner, Sayid says he has been all over the world translating contracts for an oil company. Omer, Sayid`s brother, just opened up another dry cleaning store. Sayid is genuinely happy for him. Then Omer gets a call. He says it`s business and leaves the table. It`s the first time Nadia and Sayid have been alone, and she asks if he got her letters. Yes, he did. Nadia points out that he never wrote back.

“You hooked me up to this thing. You stuck needles in me. And you called it a test.”

WHOOOSH to the Temple as Sayid talks to Dogen about why they did the tests they did on him. Dogen says it would be best if Sayid were dead, but Sayid says he`s a good man. Dogen is dubious — and SLAM! Without warning, he drills Sayid in the throat with the edge of his hand. The fight is on. They crash into tables and wreck the place. Dogen grabs a paint brush and splinters off the bristle end, just about to stab Sayid in the neck, when he sees a baseball roll by on the floor. Something about it makes Dogen stop. He tells Sayid to leave the Temple and never come back.

Outside the Temple entrance, Claire and Locke stand side by side. Claire asks why does it have to be her? Why can`t Locke do it? Locke says if he could do it himself, he wouldn`t be asking her. Claire agrees only if she can get her son back, and Locke assures her he always does what he says. Claire asks if he`s going to hurt them, and Locke says only the ones who won`t listen.

Claire strolls into the Temple and gives Dogen the message: he wants to see him. Dogen says he`ll be killed if he steps outside the Temple. Claire tells him to send someone he won`t kill. She turns to leave, but Dogen orders her imprisoned. Then he asks for Shephard and Reyes, but they can`t be found. Dogen orders Lennon to look harder for them.

Sayid is about to leave, but Dogen stops him and says things have changed. Dogen says Claire is a confused girl under the influence of an angry man. For years he`s been trapped, but now that Jacob is gone, he is free and won`t stop until he destroys every living thing on the island. Dogen wants Sayid to kill him. He gives Sayid an ancient dagger and says the man outside is no ordinary man. He is evil incarnate. He will come as someone Sayid knows. Someone who has died. As soon as Sayid sees him, he needs to plunge the dagger deep into his chest. Sayid can`t hesitate and can`t let him speak. If he does, it`s already too late. Sayid asks why he should do this? Dogen says if there`s still any good in his soul, then prove it.

WHOOOSH to Nadia`s house as Sayid sleeps on the sofa. Omer wakes him up and tells Sayid he`s in trouble. He borrowed money to open the second store, and he didn`t borrow it from a bank. He paid back the loan, but the man who lent him the money says Omer has to pay interest every month as long as he owns the store. Omer knows what kind of man Sayid is and wants him to “convince” these people to leave him alone. Sayid refuses, saying he isn`t going to hurt anyone because of Omer`s bad business decision. Omer says it`s not about him but about his family. They would lose everything. Omer knows Sayid carries around Nadia`s picture. If he really cares about her, he`ll do this.

“He`s coming, Kate… He`s coming, and they can`t stop him!”

WHOOOSH to the Temple. Kate returns and learns from Miles that Claire is back. She forces Lennon to take her to Claire. He leads her to a cistern with a rope ladder on the ground next to it. Kate looks down into the deep hole and sees Claire at the bottom singing. She calls down, and Claire is happy and surprised to see her. Kate asks why they put her down there, and Claire says she`s come back to get her son. The Others took Aaron away from her. Kate says no, they don`t have Aaron. She took Aaron off the island. Claire was gone and they couldn`t find her. Aaron is a beautiful boy, and Kate came back to rescue Claire so she could be with him again. Claire just smiles and says she`s not the one who needs rescued. He`s coming, and they can`t stop him.

“Apparently, I`m evil. These people say I`m better off dead.”

Sayid leaves the Temple and walks into the jungle. He hears the tikka tikka tikka sound of the smoke monster. At first it`s faint, but then it grows louder. Sayid knows he`s not alone. He scans the tree line, turning around looking — when Locke walks up behind him. Sayid is shocked — the man Dogen wants him to kill looks exactly like John Locke! Locke says hello, and Sayid buries the dagger deep into Locke`s chest. Locke is surprised but pulls the blade out, not a drop of blood is on it, just a hole in his shirt where the blade entered.

Locke levels his gaze on Sayid and asks why he did that. Sayid says he was told that Locke is evil incarnate. Locke feels sorry for Sayid. Dogen knew Sayid had no chance of killing him, and Dogen knew Locke would kill Sayid for trying. But this isn`t the first time Dogen has tried to get someone else to do it for him. Sayid asks what it is Locke wants him to do. Locke smiles and says to deliver a message. If Sayid does this, then what if Locke can give Sayid anything he wanted? Anything in the world. Sayid says the only thing he ever wanted died in his arms and he`ll never see it again. Locke asks but what if he could? Sayid returns to the Temple and delivers the message to Dogen and the Others: Jacob is dead and none of them have to stay there any longer. They are free. The man he met is leaving the island forever, and anyone who wants to go with him should leave the Temple and join him. They have until sundown to decide. If they stay… they`ll die.

WHOOOSH to Sayid helping Nadia get the kids off to school when their tranquility is broken — Omer was beaten unconscious outside his store. They rush to the hospital and Sayid asks how it happened. The EMTs think it was a mugging, but Sayid knows better. He starts to leaves, and Nadia stops him. Whatever he`s thinking about doing, don`t do it. She asks him to go home, make the kids dinner and make them feel safe. Later that night, Nadia returns from the hospital and tells Sayid she knows what`s going on. A debt is a debt, and they`ll simply sell the business. This is Omer`s responsibility. He brought it on himself.

“For the last twelve years, I`ve been trying to wash my hands of all the horrible things I`ve done. I can`t be with you because I don`t deserve you.”

They are close to each other and can feel the romantic tension between them. Nadia asks why Sayid didn`t want to be with her? Why did he push her towards Omer? Sayid says he`s spent twelve years trying to wash his hands of all the horrible things he`s done, and they`re still not clean. He can`t be with her

The next day, Sayid leaves to pick up the kids from school. A man drives up and tells him to get in his car. Sayid goes with him to an empty restaurant. In the kitchen, a man at the stove cooking eggs introduces himself as Martin Keamy. His partner is Omar. And you may remember them from the freighter mercenary team, but in the flash sideways they are strangers to Sayid. Keamy asks about Sayid`s brother and says it`s too bad he was mugged right in front of his own store. It`s a good thing that Sayid is there to take care of the family. Sayid asks if Keamy put his brother in the hospital. Keamy says no, but it`s a dangerous world out there — and it happens so fast, Keamy barely has time to register it. Sayid elbows Omar`s face, reaches into his jacket and grabs Omar`s gun, uses him as a human shield and shoots the other goon — and then holds Keamy at gunpoint. Keamy is desperate, and tells Sayid that his brother doesn`t owe anything. The debt is forgiven, just forget it. But Sayid can`t forget it and BAM! He shoots and kills Keamy.

The Sayid hears muffled yells coming from a walk-in freezer. Sayid opens the door, and there tied to a chair, duct tape over his mouth and beaten up, is Jin! Jin pleads with Sayid in Korean not to kill him. Sayid asks who he is, and Jin says no English.

WHOOOSH to the Temple as the Others decide what to do. Cindy says it isn`t safe there anymore, and she and the kids can`t take the risk. They leave. Sayid finds Dogen in the pool room and returns the dagger. Dogen tells Sayid that he was a businessman in Osaka and worked at a bank. He was promoted and they went out to celebrate. He had too much to drink, and he had to go pick up his twelve-year-old son from baseball practice. There was an accident. He survived but his son… Jacob came to him in the hospital and said he could save his son`s life, but Dogen had to come to the island and could never see his son again. Dogen then asks if Locke made Sayid a similar bargain, and Sayid says yes. Then Sayid tackles Dogen and forces him underwater, drowning him. Lennon comes in and is shocked to see what Sayid has done. Dogen was the only thing keeping the smoke monster out! Sayid slits Lennon`s throat and says he knows.

Then the smoke monster attacks. The Others hear the TIKKA-TIKKA-TIKKA sounds outside, and it crashes through the doors! It roils up like a snake and strikes! Kate runs to the cistern to help Claire out, but Claire tells her she`ll be safer down there. Kate looks up and sees the smoke monster barreling right toward her. She jumps into the hole, clutching onto the rope ladder. Miles tears down a separate corridor and runs into Ilana, Lapidus, Sun and Ben. They ask where Sayid is, and Miles tells them the pool room. Ben offers to go get him. Ilana leads the rest to the secret tunnel. Sun asks about Jin, and Miles tells her he left the day before. Ben finds Sayid and tells him there`s a way out, but Sayid only stares at him, Lennon`s blood on the knife. There is no way out for Sayid anymore.

In the Temple aftermath, Sayid crosses through the courtyard taking in the carnage. Sayid let the monster in, and there`s no remorse left in him. Claire enters, and she`s singing. Oblivious or unfeeling, we can`t tell. But following her is Kate, and she`s stunned. Sickened. They walk outside and join Locke with the small crowd of Others who left in time. Locke smiles, victorious, and nods to Sayid with approval. Locke has now assembled his team, and there`s no going back.

A castaway is chosen to descend into the mysterious hatch, and Shannon stumbles upon a shockingly familiar face.

Lost 02×01 Details

Introduction

A man (Henry Ian Cusick) wakes up from his bunk bed and immediately presses a few keys on what appears to be a late 1970s-era computer. He then gets dressed and begins his day as the viewpoint pans about the surrounding rooms, which contain an assortment of objects from the 1960s to the present (accompanied by the song “Make Your Own Kind of Music” by Mama Cass, which is playing off of a vinyl record player). During this routine, he injects something into his arm from a vial labeled 4 8 15 16 23 42. He is interrupted by an explosion, spurring the man to arm himself with an SKS rifle from an armory before using a telescope-and-mirror system. As his gaze reaches further and further through the complex, it continues up a shaft to the faces of Jack Shephard (Matthew Fox) and John Locke (Terry O`Quinn) standing around the now-open Hatch.

Flashbacks

In the flashback sequences, Jack encounters his future wife, Sarah (Julie Bowen), who has arrived in his emergency room after a horrific car crash. Jack works to save Sarah but, even with surgery, is unable to restore full use of Sarah`s lower body due to a spinal cord injury.

Later on, Jack is chastised by his father (John Terry) about his pessimistic bedside manner. While Jack is blowing off steam by running a Tour de stade, he falls, and as a result meets a stranger, another runner named Desmond, who tells him that he is training for a race around the world. Jack shares with Desmond how he failed Sarah, and Desmond advises him about his need to feel and provide more hope. When Jack returns to Sarah`s room, he discovers that she has experienced a miraculous recovery.

On the Island

At the Hatch entry, Jack says that they should wait for the sun to come up. Locke, on the other hand, feels that their entry should not be delayed, even after Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly) points out that the back of the Hatch door reads `Quarantine.`

At the same time, at the caves, Shannon Rutherford (Maggie Grace) and Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews) search the jungle for Walt Lloyd`s (Malcolm David Kelley) dog, Vincent, who has run off. The pair find Vincent in a clearing and attempt to catch him, but he continues to escape. During the search, the two are separated, and while alone, Shannon hears whispers in the jungle, and then Walt appears, dripping wet and speaking incoherently. When Sayid returns, he finds Shannon lying on the ground. Shannon looks back to try and see Walt, but he is gone.

During the walk back from the hatch, Hugo “Hurley” Reyes (Jorge Garcia) shares with Jack his story about the numbers inscribed on the outside of the hatch and how they are bad luck, but he is disappointed by Jack`s disbelief.

Upon reaching the caves, Jack explains the situation to the other survivors, promising them they will all be all right as long as they stay together. No sooner has he finished saying this than Locke appears, carrying cable and saying he is going into the hatch. Soon after, Kate follows behind him.

At the Hatch, Locke eases Kate down the shaft, when suddenly Kate realizes that there is something in there. In a sudden burst of light from within the hatch, Kate mysteriously disappears.

Back at the caves, after informing the survivors why they went into the jungle and that Dr. Arzt (Daniel Roebuck) is dead, Jack changes his mind about staying together and decides that he is going after Kate and Locke. Upon reaching the Hatch, he finds no one there and rappels down the shaft on his own to look for them. While exploring, he comes across a colorful painted mural, which features the numbers, and also discovers a wall where the key hanging around his neck is pulled by a strong magnetic force. Finally, after being surprised by a bright light and loud music (“Make Your Own Kind of Music”), he enters what appears to be an underground geodesic dome that contains an array of computer equipment from various earlier decades, including the 1970s-style computer with its command prompt glowing. As Jack is about to use it, Locke appears and tells Jack not to touch it. Jack raises the gun and asks where Kate is. Locke does not answer, as it is revealed a gun is being held to the side of Locke`s head.

Locke tells Jack to put the gun down. The gunman threatens that he will shoot Locke if Jack does not surrender. Jack refuses, instead taunting Locke about his destiny. Finally, the gunman steps out and Jack recognizes him as Desmond, the man he encountered after falling during his run.

The story of how Jacob and his brother came to the island, their uneasy relationship with their “mother,” their eventual falling-out, and revelation of what Jacob was on the island to protect.

Lost 06×15 Details

A young woman, Claudia, clings to a jagged piece of boat hull as the waves carry her ashore. She gets up, and we see that she`s very pregnant. Claudia is sunburned, parched and dazed. She wears a toga-like gown that`s wet and ragged, and she`s got a bad gash on her leg. She stumbles into the jungle and finds a stream, gulping the fresh water — and sees a reflection in the stream of another woman. The other woman looks to be in her late 40s and wears worn, hand-made clothing from an undetermined distant age. She speaks Latin to Claudia and offers to help her. Claudia thanks her.

The woman takes Claudia to a cave where she lives. Claudia asks where the rest of the woman`s people are, and the woman says she`s alone. Claudia is concerned about the other people on her ship. She needs to go find them. The woman comforts Claudia and says if they`re on the island, she`ll find them. Just then contractions wrack Claudia`s body and she goes into labor. The woman helps Claudia give birth to a son, whom Claudia says she`ll name Jacob. But it isn`t over — there`s a second baby, another boy. The woman swaddles Jacob in light colored rags and the second baby in darker rags. Claudia is excited but weary. She says she only picked one name. She asks to see the second baby, but the woman picks up a rock and slams it down on Claudia`s head, killing her. The babies cry, and the woman cradles them lovingly. This is Mother, and welcome to the origin story of Jacob and the Man in Black.

A 13-year-old Boy in Black finds a wooden box on the beach. He turns it over and hears something rattle inside. Excited, he takes the box and runs into the jungle. It`s an ancient senet set. He inspects two of the stone pawns. One is black, the other is white. 13-year-old Jacob walks up and asks what it is. The Boy in Black says a game. You play it. Jacob asks how he knows, and the Boy in Black shrugs. It`s obvious to him. He says he just knows. He`ll teach Jacob how to play if he promises not to tell Mother. She`ll just take it away. Jacob agrees, and we see that the two boys love each other dearly.

At the cave, Mother works at a loom. And even though the boys are 13 years older, Mother doesn`t appear to have aged a day. Jacob comes in, and Mother asks where his brother is. Jacob says down at the beach staring out at the ocean. Mother seems a little concerned about this. Jacob asks if he can help her. Mother briskly points to tangled thread to sort. She asks what they were doing at the beach. Jacob takes a moment, thinks about the promise he made his brother, and simply says they were walking. Mother asks him if he loves her, and Jacob says yes. Then, she says, tell her what happened.

Later, Mother joins the Boy in Black at the beach. And we can tell that he is clearly her favorite. He knows that Jacob told her what he found. Mother is good-natured and says that Jacob doesn`t know how to lie. He`s not like the Boy in Black. He asks her what he`s like, and Mother says he`s special. He smiles, clearly having great affection for her. He asks if he can keep the game, and Mother says of course. It`s why she left it for him. The boy is surprised. The game came from her? Of course, where else would it come from, Mother asks. The Boy in Black says softly across the sea. Mother tells him there is nowhere else. The island is all there is. The Boy asks where they came from, and Mother says they came from her and she came from her mother. He asks where her mother is, and she says she`s dead. The Boy asks what`s “dead,” and Mother says something he will never have to know about.

Cut to Jacob and the Boy in Black pursuing a boar through the jungle when it`s suddenly killed by three men. There are other people on the island! Jacob is shocked, but the Boy in Black`s eyes narrow. He confronts Mother about it. She is shocked and asks if the men saw them. The Boy in Black says no, and Jacob asks where they came from. They looked like them. Mother says, very seriously, that the men aren`t like them. Those men don`t belong there. She and the boys are there for a reason. The Boy in Black demands to know the reason, and Mother struggles with telling them, but she breaks down and tells them to come with her.

She leads them blindfolded through a bamboo field. Mother explains she is taking them to someplace that only she can show them. The Boy in Black asks if she knew about the men, and Mother says yes. She didn`t tell the boys because the men are dangerous and she didn`t want to frighten them. Jacob asks what makes the men dangerous, and Mother says the same thing that makes all men dangerous. They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt. And it always ends the same. The Boy in Black picks up on something and asks where they “come” from. Mother quickly says another part of the island. And she warns the boys to never go looking for them because the men will hurt them. Jacob asks why, and Mother says because they`re people and that`s what people do. The Boy in Black says they`re people, so does that mean they can hurt each other? Mother stops, and we can see the pain in her face. She gently pulls their blindfolds off and says no, she`s made it so they can never hurt each other.

The boys look past her and see something amazing. They ask what this place is, and Mother says it`s the reason they`re here. They are standing at a pristine part of the island, a stream shrouded in darkness from the trees surrounding it. The stream flows into a small opening underground and cascades over a waterfall into a crevice. And from inside the crevice rises a pure white light. The light creates a sense that something exceptional and special lies beneath the waterfall deep in the earth.

Mother holds the boys back from stepping into the water. Jacob seems a little confused, maybe even scared, but his brother is fascinated. Almost hypnotized. He asks what`s down there, and Mother tells him, with quiet reverence, light. The warmest, brightest light they have ever seen or felt. And they must make sure no one ever finds it. The Boy in Black says it`s beautiful, and Mother says yes, it is. That`s why they want it. A little bit of the light is in every man, and they always want more. Jacob is afraid and asks if the men can take it. Mother says no, but they will try. And if they try, they could put it out. If the light goes out here, it goes out everywhere. So Mother has protected this place but she can`t protect it forever. The Boy in Black asks then who will, and Mother says it will have to be one of them.

Later, Jacob and his brother are playing senet in the jungle when the Boy in Black sees a woman standing in the distance. It`s Claudia! She tells him it`s all right, don`t be afraid. The Boy in Black abruptly tells Jacob he`s going to take a walk on the beach and leaves. He finds Claudia in the jungle and asks why Jacob can`t see her. She says because she`s dead. Claudia asks him to come with her. She wants to show him where he came from. She leads him through the jungle to a village and explains those people came to the island 13 years ago when their ship wrecked in a storm. The Boy in Black asks what`s a ship, and Claudia says it`s what they use to go from one place to another. It`s how they came across the sea. But the boy says there`s nothing across the sea. Claudia says there are many things across the sea. Beautiful things. She says this island is not his true home. He came from across the sea, too, and the boy is shocked. He denies it. It can`t be true. That`s not what his mother told him. Claudia says that woman is not his mother — she is.

That night the Boy in Black returns to the caves, wakes Jacob and tells him they`re leaving and never coming back. The Boy has packed his stuff, and Jacob asks why. The Boy says they`re going to the people. Jacob says that they`re supposed to stay away from those people. They argue, and the Boy in Black says that Mother lied about everything. She`s not even their mother!

Jacob starts punching his brother, beating him, when Mother runs up and stops him. Jacob says his brother is leaving and going to live with the other people. Mother is shocked, but the Boy in Black says he knows the truth. There is another place across the sea. It`s where he`s from, and he`s going to go home. Mother asks who told him that, and he says his real mother — whom she killed! He says they don`t belong with her and asks Jacob to come with him. Jacob says no. Mother tells the Boy in Black that no matter what he`s been told, he can never leave the island. He says that`s not true and one day he`ll prove it. But until then? He can leave her. And the Boy in Black walks off into the jungle, melting into the darkness.

On the beach the next morning, Mother sits crying. Jacob asks if it`s true she killed their mother, and she says yes. If she had let her live, she would`ve taken them to her people, and those people are bad. She needed them to stay good. Jacob asks if he`s good why she loves the Boy in Black more than him? Mother blinks because she knows it`s true. But she consoles him and says she loves them in different ways. She asks if Jacob will stay with her, and Jacob says yes. For a while.

Thirty years later, Jacob works the loom as Mother sits by the fire. She doesn`t look any older but the years have taken a toll on her. Jacob asks if she`s all right, and Mother says she`s just tired.

Cut to a clearing in the jungle where the Man in Black works with some men as they dig a well into the ground and lay stones for the side. He looks up and sees Jacob watching. They wave to each other, and the Man in Black joins Jacob for a game of senet. The Man in Black asks if Mother knows about Jacob`s visits, and Jacob says yes, but she never asks about him. The Man in Black says then he`s sorry he asked about her. Then he asks why Jacob watches them, and Jacob says he wants to see if Mother is right about them. The Man grins. He says Mother is insane but she was definitely right about these people — they are bad. They`re greedy, manipulative, untrustworthy and selfish. Jacob asks why he`s with them, and the Man says they`re a means to an end. He`s leaving. He`s found a way off the island. Jacob says that`s impossible, there isn`t a way off the island.

The Man slides his dagger off his belt and throws it. The dagger switches direction and CLANG! Flings to the side of the well. Sticks to the stones. Jacob is stunned. The Man says there are smart men among the group who are curious how things work. They discovered places all over this island where metal behaves strangely. When they find one of those sites, they dig. And this time they found something. He asks Jacob to come with him. But Jacob shakes his head. He can`t leave. It`s his home. Upset, the Man in Black says it`s not his.

Jacob returns to the caves and tells Mother what he learned — that his brother has finally found a way to leave the island. Mother is taken aback. She goes to the dig site and climbs down into the cavern the Man in Black has made to talk to him. He explains he`s spent thirty years looking for the place she took him as a child, the waterfall with the beautiful light. He`s walked the island end to end and not once came close to finding it. But then he thought what if he could get to that light from someplace else. Figuring out how to reach it took a very long time. Mother asks if the people from the village saw this, too, and the Man says yes. He uses a wood pry bar to pop out a stone, and behind it a ray of white light shoots out from the hole. In the light, she sees what he was carving. It`s the beginnings of the wooden donkey wheel. The Man explains that they are going to open a hole, a bigger one, and attach the wheel to a system that channels the water and light. And when it`s done, he`ll finally be able to leave the island. Mother asks how he knows, and the Man in Black says he`s special. Mother asks him not to do this, not to go, and he says he has to go. He doesn`t belong there. She realizes it`s time to say good-bye and they hug. Then she says she`s sorry. But before he can ask what she`s talking about, she throttles him forward, smashing his head into the stone wall and knocking him unconscious.

Mother returns to the caves and wakes Jacob telling him it`s time. She leads him through the jungle and bamboo field to the stream. Jacob realizes something happened, and Mother says she had to say good-bye to his brother. They reach the area with the underground opening and waterfall, and Mother says Jacob is going to protect it now. Jacob asks what`s down there, and Mother says life, death, rebirth. It`s the source. The heart of the island. She asks Jacob to promise one thing — no matter what, he won`t ever go down there. He asks if he would die, and Mother says it would be worse than dying. Much worse.

She reaches into her satchel and pulls out a wine bottle and a simple silver chalice. She mutters a prayer then pours some wine into the chalice. She offers the cup to Jacob and tells him to drink. Jacob asks what will happen if he does. Mother says Jacob will accept responsibility to protect this place as long as he can. And then he`ll have to find his replacement. Jacob says he doesn`t want to protect this place. She wanted it to be his brother, but he`s all she has. Mother says it was always supposed to be Jacob. She sees that now and one day he`ll see it, too. But until then, he doesn`t really have a choice. Jacob takes the cup and drinks. There`s no magic, no skyrockets, but maybe something deeper. Because when he looks up and meets Mother`s eyes, it is a meeting of equals. Mother says now they are the same.

As dawn breaks, the Man in Black regains consciousness. He`s outside the well, and the ladder is on the ground. Immediately he knows something is wrong. He looks in the well and sees that it`s been filled in with stones. Then he sees a column of black smoke rising from the direction of his village. He runs towards it and finds the smoldering remains of his camp. It`s all been burned to the ground. No more shelters. No more people. It`s all gone. He realizes Mother killed everyone in their sleep and burned the place down. He finds the charred senet set amongst the ruins, and anger fills his face.

At the caves, Mother returns to find the place trashed and her loom smashed. In the center is the burned senet set. She kneels down to inspect it — and SCHLLIKKT! Mother looks down and sees the tip of dagger sticking out of her chest. Behind her the Man in Black withdraws the dagger. There`s no shock, no pain. Only a weary look as she slumps over. He asks why she wouldn`t let him leave, and Mother says because she loves him. He can tell she means it. Then she says thank you and dies. Behind him the Man hears something and turns. Jacob is standing there. He`s stunned and asks what he did. Jacob grows angrier and charges his brother, punching him in the face! Again and again and again. Beating him brutally.

Jacob drags the Man in Black through the bamboo field towards the stream. The Man says Jacob can`t kill him — Mother made it that way. Jacob says not to worry, he isn`t going to kill him. Jacob drags him to the underground opening with the waterfall and pushes him into the stream. The current catches the Man in Black and he is swept over the falls and down into the underground cavern. From below comes a rumbling, and we hear the bone-chilling howl of the monster! It`s a feral cry of pain and boiling rage. The rumbling builds and the ground shakes — and like a geyser going off, something blasts out of the crevice! It`s black smoke. It billows above and then roils into the jungle. It happens so fast, and Jacob is knocked back.

He staggers out into the jungle a little afraid of his first encounter with the monster. He comes across another stream and washes the blood off his hands. As he looks up, he notices the body of his brother. Jacob looks around and sees that the stream burbles out from an overgrown embankment. He realizes that his brother`s body was washed through the mysterious underground river cavern and emerged here. Jacob cradles his dead brother`s body, picks it up and carries him back through the jungle to the caves. He places the body in the corner, and then gets the body of his dead mother and lays her beside him. He picks up two stone pawns from the senet game — one black and one white — and puts them in a pouch from around his waist. He places the pouch in his brother`s hand — and we realize Jacob`s mother and brother, the Man in Black, are the Adam and Eve skeletons.

Jacob gently touches his brother`s face and says good-bye.

With Jack`s help, Locke rescues the candidates from Widmore`s compound, but their plans for leaving the island are forced to change. In Los Angeles, Jack tries to convince Locke to try an experimental surgery for his paralysis.

Lost 06×14 Details

Close on an eye and it flickers open. John Locke looks up into Jack`s face, and he says he knows him. Jack says yes, they were on the same flight from Sydney together. They met in baggage claim. Jack explains a car ran Locke down, and Locke just came out of surgery. Jack then tells Locke that when he was operating, he got a look at the original injury to Locke`s spine. He wants to know how it happened. Locke asks why, and Jack explains he thinks Locke`s a candidate for a new procedure that could restore feeling in his legs. Locke could even walk again. So if Locke will give him a shot, Jack thinks he can fix him. Locke says no, and before Jack can protest, Helen walks in. She`s happy to see Locke. When she notices Jack, she gives him a big hug, thanking him for saving Locke.

WHOOOSH to Hydra island at night. Sawyer, Kate, Sun, Hurley, Claire and Lapidus are Widmore`s prisoners and are being marched into the polar bear cages. Another team is setting up the portable pylons around the perimeter. Sawyer manages to get a rifle away from one of the men, but Widmore fires off a gunshot and everyone stops. He orders Sawyer to drop the gun or he`ll kill Kate. Sawyer doesn`t believe him, but Widmore says he has a list of names. Ford, Reyes and the Kwons are on it – but not Kate Austen. It doesn`t matter to him if she lives or dies. Kate tells Sawyer not to listen to him, but Sawyer drops his gun and they`re locked in the cages. Widmore asks if the fence is live yet, and one of the guys says it will be in an hour. Widmore orders them to move faster – he`s coming!

WHOOOSH to Bernard`s dentist office as Jack walks in. He explains that he has a patient named John Locke, and his records show that Bernard performed some emergency oral surgery on him three years ago. Bernard asks what Jack is looking for exactly, and Jack says he wants to know how Locke was hurt. Bernard asks why he`s interested, and Jack says they met over a week ago on the same flight from Australia. Then yesterday he was run down in the street, and Jack was the one called in to do the surgery on him. It`s almost like their meetings are happening for a reason. And Jack doesn`t know why, but he just felt like he could help Locke. Bernard tells Jack that he and he wife, Rose, sat across the aisle from Jack on the flight from Australia. Rose said Jack was flirting with her while he was in the bathroom. Pretty weird coincidence, huh? Bernard says he can`t break patient confidentiality, but he can tell Jack that when he treated Locke, there was another man with him: Anthony Cooper. Bernard wishes Jack good luck. He hopes Jack finds what he`s looking for.

WHOOOSH to Hydra island as Sayid paddles up in an outrigger. Jack regains consciousness and sits up. Sayid tells him there was a mortar attack and Locke saved him. Jack asks why they`re there, and Locke steps out of the tree line and says Jack`s people were captured, locked in the cages, and they have to rescue them. If they move now, they can break them out, run for the plane and get off the island. Jack says they`re not his people and he`s not leaving the island. Locke says he hopes Jack changes his mind because his friends want to leave, and Locke is going to need Jack to convince them to trust him. Jack asks why he should trust Locke, and Locke says because he could kill Jack right now and hasn`t. He could kill every one of Jack`s friends, and there`s nothing Jack could do to stop him. But instead Locke saved Jack`s life, and now he wants to save the others, too.

“I have your ring.”

At the cages, Sawyer can`t believe they`re locked up again. It`s like they`re running in circles. Kate tells him Widmore wouldn`t have killed her. But Sawyer tells her the cave where their names were written — Kate`s name was there and it was crossed out. He doesn`t need her. Jin and Sun spend the time catching up about Ji Yeon, and Sun gives Jin his wedding ring back.

Then suddenly – the lights go out and the generator shuts off. It`s dark. Silent. Eerie. Widmore`s team begins to panic – and then TIKKA TIKKA TIKKA. The group hears the smoke monster. It roars and attacks. Seamus is pile-driven straight into the bars of the cages, killing him. The monster rampages through the jungle as muzzle flashes go off and men scream. Kate stretches her arms through the bars reaching for Seamus`s keys, but they`re just out of reach. Then another hand reaches in, and Jack is there grabbing the keys. Kate asks what he`s doing there, and Jack says he`s with Locke. He unlocks the cages, and they run out.

WHOOOSH to a nursing home as Jack is requesting to see Anthony Cooper. Walking up behind him is Helen. She asks why Jack is there. Jack says he`s there to see Anthony Cooper and asks if Helen knows him. She asks what he wants with Anthony. Jack says he wants to know about Locke`s accident. Helen tells Jack to leave. Jack says he can help Locke, that there`s a procedure – but Helen interrupts him and says she knows about the operation. Locke told her, and he doesn`t want it. Jack wants to know why. Finally, Helen breaks down and says if Jack wants to “talk” with Mr. Cooper, let`s go talk to him. She leads him to the dining room where Anthony Cooper is being fed – and Jack`s face falls. Anthony is paralyzed from the neck down. He`s catatonic, head drooping, eyes glazed over. Any recognition, any consciousness, is long gone. Helen tells Jack that Anthony Cooper is Locke`s father.

WHOOOSH back to Hydra island as Jack leads everyone to the plane. Sayid emerges from the brush, and Jack tells them it`s okay. Sayid is with them – he`s the one that turned off the generator. Sayid tells them Locke is waiting, and they take off. At the Ajira plane, Locke kills the two men guarding it and takes a digital watch from one of the men`s wrists. He goes inside and inspects the plane. He finds a tangle of wires running along the edge and follows them to an overhead bin. He opens it and is annoyed with what`s inside. The group reaches the plane and see the dead men. Locke fesses up, says he killed them and that Widmore knew he`d kill them. They were only guarding the plane for show. If Widmore wanted to stop Locke from getting on board, he wouldn`t have moved his little fences.

“I don`t trust that thing one bit. So here`s what I need you to do. Once we get to the dock, you make sure it doesn`t get on the sub.”

Hurley is confused. So now Widmore wants them to leave the island? Locke says no, he wants to get them all in the same place at the same time and then he wants to kill them. Locke holds up bricks of C-4 explosive. He found it in one of the overhead compartments wired into the plane`s electrical system. If they turned it on – boom. Who knows if Widmore put more explosives on the plane? It`s not safe. Locke suggests they take the submarine. Sawyer`s all for it – it`s what he`s been saying all along. Hurley asks if he trusts Locke, and Sawyer says they need him. Hurley tells him that Locke isn`t supposed to leave the island, but Sawyer doesn`t care. Locke has saved them twice now. Locke says it`ll be dangerous taking the sub. Widmore won`t give it up without a fight. They take off, but Sawyer hangs back with Jack. Sawyer doesn`t trust Locke one damn bit. Sawyer knows Jack doesn`t want to leave the island, so Jack has one job and one job only – once they`re at the dock, Jack has to make sure Locke doesn`t get on the sub. Sawyer tells him to just get Locke in the water, and he`ll take care of the rest

WHOOOSH to Locke`s recovery room as Jack checks in on him. Locke mumbles something, and Jack asks if he`s awake. Locke is talking in his sleep and says push the button, it`s a two-man job. Then Locke mutters he wishes that he`d believed him. Jack looks up and notices Claire in the hallway. They go to a break room to talk in private. Claire knows it`s as awkward for him as it is for her. She never even met Christian. The lawyer gave her a music box and said that her father especially wanted her to have it. She holds it out for Jack to see. Claire asks if he knows what it`s supposed to mean. Jack has no idea. Claire asks how their father died, and Jack says they found him in an alley outside a bar in Sydney. Jack flew down to pick up the body, but the airline lost it. Claire says she also just flew in from Sydney. Jack asks if it was Oceanic flight 815, and Claire is surprised. How`d he know? Jack opens the music box and it plays “Catch a Falling Star.” He gives it back to her and says he wishes he knew why their father gave it to her. Claire starts to leave, but Jack stops her and asks where she`s staying. Claire says at a motel down the road. Jack asks her to stay with him. Claire says she`s a stranger, and Jack says no. She`s family.

WHOOOSH to Hydra island as Jack`s group plan their takeover of the sub. Sawyer, Lapidus, Hurley, Sun and Jin will go first, then Sayid, Kate and Claire will follow thirty seconds later. Jack and Locke will provide cover from behind. Sawyer`s group races down the dock to the conning tower. They open it, and Sawyer slips inside. He captures a guy, and they head to the bridge. Sawyer tells the captain to fire the sub up.

Locke and Jack start down the dock after Kate`s group. Locke asks Jack to reconsider, but Jack says no. The real John Locke told him he needed to stay. This catches smoke monster Locke off guard – and Jack uses the surprise to punch Locke in the chest and knock him off the dock into the water. Kate and Claire are climbing into the sub as gunfire erupts from the tree line behind them. Sayid and Claire take cover behind some crates and barrels and return fire. Kate is shot in the shoulder, and she collapses onto the dock. Jack races over and grabs her, carries her to the opening and shimmies down the ladder. Sayid hands Kate down to him, then starts down himself. He sees Claire and tells her to come on, now!

Inside the sub, Jack calls out for a first aid kit. Sawyer hears the gunshots and asks what`s going on. Jack tells him Widmore`s people shot Kate and that Claire is still up there. Sawyer climbs up the ladder and looks out. A very unhappy Locke is pulling himself out of the water. Gun fire erupts behind him, but Locke is unfazed. He points his gun and shoots Widmore`s goon! Locke sees Sawyer and starts running for the sub. Claire is watching the tree line –Locke is getting closer – so Sawyer slams the hatch door closed. Sawyer calls out to Lapidus to go! Dive! Jack asks what Sawyer is doing, and Sawyer says what they came to do – they`re leaving.

“Trust me. You don`t want to be on that sub.”

On the dock, Claire cries out for them to wait! Locke says it`s okay, but Claire says they`re leaving them. Locke tells her to trust him. She doesn`t want to be on that sub.

Inside the sub, Hurley can`t find a first aid kit. Jack tells Hurley to look for his pack. He`s got a shirt in there he can use for pressure. Jin hands Jack his pack. Jack starts looking through it and stops. He`s shocked and surprised. Inside is the bomb from the plane with the bricks of C-4 taped together and rigged with the digital watch Locke took from Widmore`s guard. It reads 3:50 and counting down.

“This is what he wanted — this is what he`s been waiting for. Everything that he has done has been to get us here. He wanted to get us all in the same place at the same time. A nice enclosed space where we have no hopes of getting out of.”

Jack realizes they did exactly what Locke wanted. He says they have to get to the surface, and Jin calls to Lapidus in the bridge telling him to take them up! Then Jin asks why Locke would plant the bomb – he wanted to come with them. Jack realizes that Locke wanted them to shut him out. Jack asks Sayid if he can turn it off. Sayid says the watch is rigged to the battery, and the battery detonates the explosives. Sawyer calls Lapidus asking how long `til they get to the surface. Lapidus guesses at least five minutes. They don`t have time! Sayid points out that if two wires are disconnected from the battery, the bomb should be inert – but both wires would have to pulled out at the same time.

Sawyer reaches past Sayid to pull the wires, but Jack stops him. Jack says nothing is going to happen. Locke can`t kill them, so this is what he wants. Everything he`s done has been to get them together in the same place at the same time. Locke said he can`t leave the island without them, but Jack thinks he can`t leave unless they`re all dead. Locke said he could kill them whenever he wanted, but what if he didn`t because he`s not allowed? What if Locke is trying to get them to kill each other? If he wanted to blow them up, why put a timer on the bomb?

“What if he`s trying to get us to kill each other?”

Sawyer doesn`t know but says it isn`t Jack`s decision to make. Jack insists that nothing will happen, that they`ll be okay. Sawyer refuses to sit there and do nothing. Jack says they just have to trust him. Sawyer apologizes and says he doesn`t – and before anyone can stop him, he yanks both wires out simultaneously.

The timer stops… and then BEEEEP! The countdown resumes three times as fast! Sawyer looks at Jack and realizes he just made the single biggest mistake of his entire life. Sayid tells them to listen to him carefully. There`s a well a half mile southwest of the camp they left. Desmond is inside it. Locke wants him dead, which means they need him. And then Sayid takes off running down the corridor away from them! He comes to a bend, follows it around – and then KAAA-THWOOOOM!!!

The bomb goes off! The sub rocks violently, and everyone is thrown off their feet. Water rushes in. Sawyer and Jack realize that Sayid just blew up! Sawyer asks where is everybody? Hurley is there in shock. Water is now around their knees. Kate is unconscious in the water. Jack picks her up and turns her over. Jin calls out – Sun is pinned under a toppled cabinet. Jin and Sawyer try to lift it, but it`s too heavy and wedged in. It won`t budge.

“I won`t leave you. I will never leave you again.”

Jack sees a cabinet marked emergency evacuation and opens it. Inside are two small scuba tanks with regulators. He gives one to Hurley and tells him to get Kate out. Hurley wants to go after Sayid, but Jack says there is no more Sayid. Kate is shot and needs his help. They can share the tank and buddy-breathe. Hurley takes Kate and the oxygen tank and leaves. Jack goes to Sawyer and Jin and tries to help pull the cabinet off Sun. It still won`t move. Sun watches in terror – and then another hull in the sub collapses. A metal air scrubber falls and hits Sawyer on the head. He falls into the chest-deep water unconscious. Sun tells Jin to save himself. Jin says no, he`s getting her out of there. Jin tells Jack to save Sawyer. Jack knows what Jin is doing and that his only choice is to save Sawyer, so he takes the second scuba tank and dives into the water with Sawyer. Sun tells Jin he has to go, but Jin says he won`t leave her. He`ll never leave her again. He takes her hand and says he loves her. She says she loves him, too, and they kiss as the water rises above their faces.

“I love you, Sun.”

Soon the room is flooded, and Sun and Jin`s hands float there for a beat still clutching each other… and then their hands slowly release from each other and drift apart.

WHOOOSH to the hospital as an orderly wheels Locke out of his room. The orderly asks if someone is meeting Locke, and he says yes, his finacée. Jack rushes up to say good-bye. Then Jack says he went to see Locke`s father. When Locke didn`t want the surgery, Jack needed to understand why. Locke says he was in a plane crash. He had his private pilot`s license for a week and begged his dad to be his first official passenger. His dad was afraid of flying, but Locke looked him in the eye and said he could trust him. They barely got off the ground. Locke still doesn`t know what he did wrong, but it was his fault. His fault that a man he loved more than anything will never walk or talk again. Jack reminds Locke of what he said when they met at the airport – Locke told Jack his father was gone. It hurt to hear but Locke was right. And Locke`s father is gone, too. Locke can punish himself all he wants, but it won`t bring his father back. Locke asks what makes Jack think letting go is so easy, and Jack says it`s not. He doesn`t really know how to do it himself, but he was hoping Locke could be the first to go. Locke is taken by Jack`s honesty and sincerity but can`t do it. He says good-bye and wheels away. Desperate, Jack calls out after him that he can help him. He wishes Locke would believe him. Locke stops, considers it but wheels away.

WHOOOSH to the island as Jack struggles out of the surf pulling an unconscious Sawyer behind him. Kate and Hurley are there and run down the beach towards him. Jack says Sawyer is okay. He hit his head pretty hard but he`s breathing. Kate asks about Sun and Jin, but Jack shakes his head. Kate starts to cry. Hurley holds her, tears streaming down his own face. Jack watches them cry, then walks into the surf, unable to hold back his own grief, and stares off into the dark distance at Hydra island.

On the Hydra island dock, Locke stands at the end staring at the main island. Claire is a few feet away, clutching her knees and crying. You`d think as loud as Jack is shouting you`d hear him, but it`s very quiet here. Only the sound of the breeze and the lapping waves as we push in on Locke… and he looks angry.
